She didn't even know what a bear was.

1) she was a doctor ie MD not a biologist or zooologist
2) its in the future and the earth is dying, how do you know there were any bears left on earth?
3) i dont believe she asked what the animal was, she asked what happened to it.
4) this was a stupid movie anyways.

Unfortunately, the actor who played Gretchen, Sarah Danielle Madison (Sarah Goldberg), died last year, at the age of just 40. She died in her sleep, apparently from a heart ailment.
