Interesting cast

I was surprised by the cast - you never knew who was going to pop up next in a cameo role.
Derek Jacobi and Vinnie Jones are an odd pairing, but it works well. Kenny Lynch pops up as a gangster, 'Not the Nine o'clock news's' Mel Smith shows up in a funny role. Haven't seen him in a film for years! 'The New Avengers's Gareth Hunt is very funny as a mortician with a quirky sense of humour. 'The Vampires of Bloody Island's Allin Kempthorne pops up in some historic flashbacks, Julie Cox and Vanessa Redgrave are good too.

It was like a breath of fresh air to see a film that was intelligent and did not treat its viewers like morons. I saw it at a private charity screening for Over the Wall, Paul Newman's charity.

V Jones was miles better than I expected, and playing totally against type. Jacobi was stunning, but I agree that some of the cameo's were great. Gareth Hunt from the New Avengers (RIP) was great and Mel Smith was very funny as a stuffy Dickens expert.

My only grumble was not having more of Vanessa Redgrave who plays a vile newspaper boss very well, but only pops up for a few scenes. Still, best indie I've seen since Pan's Labyrinth.
