Here we witness a candidate for the most obviously manipulated movie of the year.

It always amazes me to read the repeatedly undead arguments of clueless pedestrians who believe that absurdly overrated movies are the just the result of 15 year olds with too much time on their hands. When the reality is that rigging high IMDB results in new releases is far more organized than the clueless masses might believe...

reply

Ummm...I think everyone knows if you see an indie movie with very few votes but an extremely high rating, that almost all the votes are from people associated with the film and their friends and family.

reply

Not bad some bad moments but a pretty decent flick.

Curiously enough, 24 of the IMDB rave reviews for the director's first Vinnie Jones film, Johnny Was, were written by first-time reviewers who never reviewed anything else and have no posting history - including the reviewer attacking someone who gave ita bad review for having no life. All but one of the other reviews are bad. Nothing remotely suspicious there whatsoever.

You bring a whole new meaning to the phrase "straw man"

I think that Pitcarn's posting history pretty much proves your point, Trevor.

Not Brendan, just someone vastly entertained by all the "Outraged of Tunbridge Wells" responses.

I have little doubt that lots of the "critics" here are getting a few "free lunches" from their bosses at rival British tabloids.

On the other hand, we have a similar view of John Bolton in common :)

reply

He believes everyone who doesn't like his version of War of the Worlds is working for a consortium of Paramount, DreamWorks and the Scientologists.

Hey Brendan, did you direct Vinnie in those RAC commercials, or did Tony Kaye do them?

Hmm... where do most initial rating from a film come from?
From the people who have seen it before a distribution deal.

So where are *they* going to see it?

From rushes, from in-progress copies, from previews.

So if a film was given a starting mark less than 8 or 9, to me it shows that even the people involved in it could not be bothered to vote. What does that say?

I am sure that most IMDB voting patterns start high then oscillate and find a level.

So all these howls of outrage about the voting, puhleeze

It will be interesting to see the figures after a couple of weeks - I think it will probably be a film that people are very polarised over.

As for Vinnie, I think it is feeble when people say "stick to being a hard man"
- Jacobi and him worked together far better than many other celebrity pairings and I think he has come a very long way since IMHO the hugely over-rated Lock Stock.
