Dirk running things?

Mentioned early on that the town was now a hazardous waste disposal (funny how that wasn't really addressed much at the end, unless the rain magically washed away all the bad stuff). Anyway, with land so cheap, Dirk was able to buy it all up with his meth money. Nobody else owned the property they were occupying there.

There was no local government (mayor, sheriff, courts, taxes etc.). I guess it's possible that someone in town could make a complaint to the state, but didn't seem too motivated to do so. They probably figured there was no point, since Dirk's gang could likely see state troopers coming and hide the evidence. No charges would be filed and the person who filed a complaint would be sent packing. Nowhere else much to go but deeper in the desert and live in a rattlesnake den.
