I didnt get the ending? Someone people help!

Hey guys.. I was following the movie right up until the end now i just dont get it. Ben Foster was telling that war story and Woody started crying, why was that?

So him and the girl never really got together but the end showing that he may drive down to see her makes u beleive something may happen between them?

Thanks

My guess is he is crying because he just heard a very sad story relating to the very sad work that he does. There's a quote on Woody's IMDB page to the effect that he loves to express his feelings in general and to cry in particular, so that scene might have been his idea - a personal touch, possibly. It was very convincing, I thought.

And yes, something might happen between Ben and Samantha.

i took it to be that all the emotions that his character had held in finally came out right on the couch

and yes, something might happen....but it shouldnt

big mistake when two damaged people get together

I agree with bacci40, I think Harrelson's character started crying b/c he had been suppressing his emotions the whole time in order to do the job.

That said, I didn't like the ending much, it seemed like a dramatic letdown. I was expecting Foster's character to have a nervous breakdown or something.

It's about healing. These guys are textbook case PTSD. It was a very moving and sensitive look at how two broken people can ultimately help heal each other. Every soldier should see this movie. Wonderful film and I hope it get a wider exposure after it wins big during award season. Loved the willie nelson home on the range. So poetic...
