Curious: What do real Notifiers do the other 7 hours of the day?

This is a serious question...as the movie didn't really give a feel for what they do after the notification. There is still many more hours left in their day and what do they do on days when thankfully there is no notifications to make?

It was early in the movie.. the sergeant worked in maintenance.

Casualty Notification is an additional duty that is only performed when a casualty occurs within that Casualty Assistence Center's area of operations. When CNO's are not performing notifications, they will be doing their regular day-to-day jobs. As someone pointed out, it seemed that Sergeant Montgomery was a motor sergeant or somehow in charge of vehicle maintenance. It's not clear what Captain Stone's job was, but since he was a Signal Corps officer in what appeared to be a non-Signal battalion, he was probably the battalion's S6 officer or something.
