Steve Buscemi: Could he Get a Nom?

Okay, I know it is a stretch, but could anyone else see Steve Buscemi getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the Oscars for his unforgettable, yet small role in The Messenger? I mean, Buscemi is one of the greatest actors not to have an oscar nomination. He was snubbed in 2002 for his incredible performance in Ghost World, and I could see the Academy trying to make it up to him. We've seen "Honorary Award Nominations/Wins" before given to total dark horses, and Steve Buscemi could be in line for that overdue recognition. Not to mention he is one of the most respected character actors in film. If not an Oscar Nom, I would be suprised if he didn't land an Independant Spirit Award nomination considering he is an indie legend.

What do you guys think?

I completely agree. Steve Buscemi's role was small, but intense and memorable. I saw the film last night at the opening of the Savannah Film Festival. Woody Harrelson and Ben Foster were in attendance and spoke before and after the film. I thought the performances in this film were some of the best I've seen in a while, not just from the main actors, but every role. Steve Buscemi especially. I would be extremely pleased to see Buscemi get a Nom and hopefully walk with some well deserved awards.

Small note, they seemed pretty high at the time of their speeches, didn't they?

Since Reservoir Dogs I've been a big fan of Buscemi, he's got a unique style different from any other actor. I've yet to see The Messengers, but now I'am really stoked fot it. He definately deserves a Nom though, cant't wait to see him in this.

I think so. I think several of the performances from this movie may be nominated. The Messenger seems to be this year's Doubt, so far.

Everyone was good, but Harrelson and Buscemi were amazing. I'd have to say I'd rather see Harrelson nominated than Buscemi, mainly because he had a larger role and it would be hilarious to see Hollywood snobs reacting to "that guy from Cheers" getting an Academy Award nomination.

"that guy from Cheers" has already been nominated so I don't think Hollywood snobs have anything to do with it..... Buscemi will not be nominated but Harrelson is a good bet

thats more unlikely than the fresh prince getting nominated!

Foster carried the movie. Harrelson was great but wasn't the soul of the movie. Buscemi will not get a nomination. The movie is uneven but it is worth seeing for the performances.

i agree with that
