Talk about anti-climactic

Ok, so I knew the premise going in. I thought the payoff would be the way that their true love somehow, someway perservered (despite Burt's craziness) and eventually brought them back together. But in the end, the reason they got back together was... what exactly? Her being lonely and broke? Not exactly true love, was it?

If that's what crazy love is all about, I'll take a pass.

That's what I took away from it, money & lonliness. A lot of women in that generation believed that getting married was just "what you do," and so it was their main goal in life. As she got older, she started to realize that her prospects were pretty slim. Plus, you know, I think she has some serious mental problems of her own.

It's almost (ALMOST) like it would have just been a crazy, quirky story IF the whole thing with the 2nd woman hadn't come out. But basically, I was just left with a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach.

this isnt a fictional film. why would you be disappointed with the ending. Up until this point of their lives its how the story goes. its just a sad sad tale.

Agree. I think the poster might have missed the point here. You're not supposed to be happy/disappointed about the outcome..that's what happened between them despite how you feel about it. And yes..it is a sad tale whatever her reasons were for taking him back.

Near the end, when Burt says he's "been good" for 10 years- Linda says she's throw him out on his behind. Huh? They were meant for each other. She seems to like the attention, and playing a ditzy old bossy rich wife.Almost like a sit com couple. Sort of a (sad) comedy routine. Thetve turned it into a career. Lets face it- she called herself "damaged goods". She probably couldn't find much employment. He's a dis barred lawyer, ex-con . I don't think either one of them could survive without the other. It's a financial partnership. Their story is the product.Separately they fade into the woodwork. Together they prosper.BUrt made sure of that, didn't he?

BTW-Are they still alive?

She had a steady job for 15 years.

He worked as a paralegal when he got out.

While they did sell their story in the 70s they went decades just living and not doing that. Everyone had forgotten about them before the 97 trial. Because they were just living their lives not constantly selling a product. They faded into the woodwork for decades.

It's not accurate that it was all about money. She really needed someone.
