This is waank

Never seen such waank in my life. I was paid to watch it as a bet. The bet was I wouldn't stay to the end. I did, and therefore I have a right to say this is a waank film that's a 2/10.

Even the cat refused to stay in the room, I thought he said meow, in hindsight he said waank....

Well thats only your opinion. While no masterpiece it was a solid film,a good horror.

Instead of replying to my actual thread that you posted on as well, I'll just reply here hanlon. What exactly did you find "good" about this movie in terms of it being horror? To me, good horror doesn't need over the top gore...a jump scare every minute...and completely excessive use of cgi effects. In fact, to me, a good horror movie is one that can scare the crap out of an audience with pretty much the exact opposite of everything I just listed. I know you said this is no masterpiece (and believe me nothing could be more true), but this garbage is exactly why horror movies have died a painful death.

Again, as I stated in my own thread, the only movies I've seen in the last 5 years that have gotten it right in terms of true horror are the Paranormal Activity movies, and The Strangers. Those movies relied on their slow pacing and build up, very little over the top gore (yes...that can be argued about The Strangers, but at least it wasn't excessive until it was absolutely needed for a scene), and virtually no use of cgi. Just good old fashioned special effects and make-up. And I bet if you took a poll, more people would say they were scared, genuinely scared, by one of those movies than over this crappy excuse for a horror movie.

I'm not bashing you hanlon. I really would like to hear your opinions! What I am bashing is Hollywood's distorted vision that only high budgeted computer generated movies can be made nowadays and labeled as horror.

Well , I went into this with low expectations and was entertained,it was better than I what I expected.I found the acting good ,the pacing and I wanted to see where it was going to end.I'm a fan of Kiefer Sutherland(because of 24) but not a huge horror fan in general myself.I'll watch the odd one here and there because most of the stuff coming out is crap and I could not be bothered to give them a chance (too many crappy remakes)but I did with this and found it good for a horror. The Nightmare on Elm Street remake was truely a bucket of piss.

reply

Alright, well one line in your reply kind of explains everything. Don't take this the wrong way please, because I don't mean for it to sound offensive at all, seriously I don't, but the fact that you say you are not a huge horror fan explains everything in my opinion. I can see how someone who is a casual horror movie watcher may find something entertaining in this movie, and if you really only went into this with low expectations and basically because you like Kiefer, then I can see why you didn't hate this as much as I did.

I AM a huge horror movie buff. So for me, this kind of movie is total crap. Like I've already said, I'm more into suspense and build up with an amazing payoff. Pacing does it for me. I also prefer to not always "see" the horror (ie...Paranormal Activity). For me, it's more about what my mind imagines it's seeing that can really be more frightening. I don't need intense blood and guts. And I sure as hell despise the over use of a jump-scare as a portal to expose us to the "horror" in a movie. That's very amateurish in my opinion. And the fact that this movie relied so heavily on jump scares and gore just completely turned me off to it.

But like I said, this was not meant to be an attack on you personally. It was about the movie itself. I am glad you liked it for what it was. At least someone did, so it wasn't a total wash. lol :p

Im not offended and fair enough your right on me not knowing my horror as Im not a big fan of horror in general but many of my friends seen this film and enjoyed as much as I did. In fact, one of them one is a horror buff but look everyone to their own and we all enjoy things different.

reply

No offense, but I'm kind of sick of the people who act like they're an authority on horror movies because they're "huge horror movie buffs". They always seem to only accept a fantastic film, anything else is crap. I'm a huge horror buff and I recognize that there are tons of total crap horror movies constantly coming out. At the same time, I can appreciate some movies for what they are. I thought this wasn't bad. There was a reasonable amount of suspense and the movie didn't rely entirely on jump scares. It did go downhill towards the end, but overall it wasn't bad. That's called an opinion. Everyone has differing ones. It has nothing to do with whether you're a horror movie buff or not.

reply

I'm not saying I'm an "authority." I'm just a horror buff which I see as just being a way of saying that I'm a huge fan of the horror genre. And the reason I hated this movie is because it could have been so much more if it hadn't been so overblown with CGI and every other horror cliché that we've seen in the last 10 years of terrible horror movies like this (ie, The Unborn, The Uninvited, etc etc etc)

One movie that people seem to really hate that I actually liked was the remake of When a Stranger Calls. It had great pacing...no CGI at all that I'm aware of...and a great atmosphere.
The suspense build up was amazing, and to me, that's what horror is all about. Not excess blood that looks like a freakin cartoon because of the horrible CGI.

Mirrors is a forgettable movie. Nobody is going to say 30 years from now, "Man, that movie Mirrors totally redefined horror. What a masterpiece that was!" And the sad thing is...with the premise of the movie...if it had been done correctly, it could have been unforgettable.

I don't think I'll ever forget Mirrors. It's like a bad episode of 24 with a dash of the paranormal... Jack Bauer running around, screaming and waving a gun at people, doing whatever he needs to do to foil the terrorists, er demons. My favorite scene is when he catches fire and decides to stop, drop, and roll on the burning floor, the very same floor that set him on fire to begin with. It's hilarious. Unfortunately there aren't enough of those moments to turn this into a so bad it's funny.

I agree. Tired of being condescended to and my opinion of a movie dismissed just because I haven't seen a gazillion horror movies and express my opinion.

View ScarletKnights ladies and gents: A man so desperate for female attention, he will stalk a woman on several different IMDB boards just to get it. He posted on 3 seperate threads of mine, I'm guessing it was a lonely night of drinking and cybersex for him, although deep down he knows he was probably cybering with another man, not a woman. We had a disagreement years ago and he was so excited to be getting attention from a female, he's been stalking me ever since. I almost feel bad mocking him here, he does seem very lonely and emotionally fragile. But that is no excuse for stalking.

HAHAHAHA!

I've not even seen the film so god knows what I'm doing on this thread but I love this comment. Well done for a remarkably funny put-down (although he's probably going to go through my posts now)

I completely agree, this movie was total waank, it really annoyed me that I actually took time out of my day to watch it and trust me, I've seen some tremendously bad movies, but none of them annoyed me as much as having wasted my time watching this. It was just completely flat all the way through, not one of the thousands of jump scares got me. Also why is everyone in a horror movie a recovering alcoholic lately? or someone with a sightly dark past (but not dark enough to be even remotely interesting)? Dull, predictable, bad special effects, terrible acting, an obnoxious child, ghosts with an agenda (AGAIN) *yawn*

Ahahaha, I found this thread quite entertaining actually, (and I haven't even seen Mirrors), but I completely agree with you about Paranormal Activity! Thank you for stating the obvious on that one. ^^

I know what an idiot, he talked about jump scares not being important to horror and then listed a film he enjoyed that relies completly on them from the start to the very end. He also mentioned The Strangers which i found to be very disapointing, the trailer was far creepier than the actual film and the pacing i thought was very poor. This on the other hand( and yes i am a horror fan) i found to be a solid entertaining film( no masterpiece as stated earlier) which can not be said for so many horrors around these days which have jumped on the found footage craze created by PA and Cloverfield meaning i have to sit through a bunch of teenagers running around with a shakey camera for 2 hours.

One of the truly worst movies (far less horror movies) of all time.

I know this thread is very old, and maybe no one will read it again, but I have just now seen the movie, and I can't believe how you can think it is crap.
I think the movie was really scary and the warehouse was one of the freakiest locations I ever saw. The middle part might be a little dull but overall, I think it was really scary, which might be the best parise to a horrormovie.

My favourite and scariest video game is Silent Hill, and sometimes I watch a horror movie and think, tis reminds me of Silent Hill (movies like 1408 and Creep), but the warehouse looked more like Silent Hill than any other movie I've seen (maybe even more than the Silent Hill movie itself).

I don't remember when I last time saw an american horror movie as scary as this (and I do see a lot of them), but feel free to suggest one.

OP complained that the movie used jumpscares and CGI to be scary and therefor sucked, but that is rubbish: what matters is whether the movie is scary and while lowbudget movies like Paranormal activities are quite scary, it does not mean that a movie with more effects can't be scary. There is not just one recipe for a good horrormovie, what matters if whether it is scary.

I personally think it's an underrated masterpiece. Great acting, gloomy, dark, bloody as hell and creepy.
