Release Info and Availability

Rather than scatter information about the release of Flood around various threads, I've started this one to try and concentrate any such information in the one place.

My phone call to Lionsgate yesterday elicited the information that the film is being released on 24 August 2007, DVD only, no cinema release. I didn't ask about VHS availability. I also don't know about non-UK availability.

I've been trying to find any on-line sellers of the film to pre-order and have checked Amazon UK, cd-wow, play.com, HMV, Virgin Megastore all without success. If anyone can find it on the web please could they post it on this thread.

Cheers

Apparently it has already been shown on Spanish and Italian television but I doubt they showed the full DVD/Cinema version. Hopefully, it would have been a heavily edited version to fit into a time slot.

It seems that the DVD release has been put on hold and the movie will be rushed into one or two cinemas to see how it does at the box office.

reply

Well, that could explain why there are still no informations about it on Lionsgates sites, if they still haven't made up their minds whether to release it on DVD's or in theatres...

Wonder if this is in any way linked to the "Act of God" project David Suchet's IMDB listing mentions for 2007.

reply

Linked in what way?

Now found on play.com here http://www.play.com/DVD/DVD/4-/3441264/Flood/Product.html

Unfortunately not yet orderable. I'm hoping to call Liongate tomorrow (Wednesday) to see where copies can be bought. I haven't yet found it on Amazon or cd-wow.

Anyone got any other information?

reply

No, sorry, not yet..

I've just spoken to Lionsgate and got through to the person that manages the production of the film prints for distribution.

He told me it was a 1 print release, i.e. just the one print of the film is being released, and it's going to cinemas, initially in London's West End.

Depending on the reaction there will depend on how cinemas around the country take it up (or not). He suggested I asked my local cinema(s) when they were going to show it - obviously to encourage distribution ;-)

He then said the DVD release is normally 3-4 months after cinema release (my comment: perhaps in time for Christmas?)

Frustrating, isn't it!

What a farce....Possibly the most apt time imaginable for a film on this subject matter and the distributors can't decide whether to release it or not! They should have been jumping all over the free publicity they would get given the current weather situation in England. But no....one screen in London! Crazy.

reply

This looks really good, why is it going straight to video?

Maybe I'm missing a point here... but what's that YouTube clip

got to do with Flood and release plans?

Oops, sorry, misunderstood... I now see when checking your profile it's supposed to be a part of your signature and not a part of the question...

Gah! It's crazy, if this was New York being flooded (i.e. Day After Tomorrow), this would have a world wide cinema release. Why is it that the film industry distributors assume that everyone's only interested in watching catastophies happening to the U.S. (err... actually, don't answer that!) Anyway, from what I've seen on the trailer, the effects look just as good as D.A.T., if not better in some scenes.

reply

Obviously there must be some reason since they apparently from the start had in mind to put it straight on DVD and not to theatres, and then changed their minds... the last issue could be some kind of second thoughts, thinking that it could have a cinema audience, the recent weather situations in England beared in mind.

Any idea on whether this will get a Region 1 DVD release, or just Region 2?

reply

Opens this Friday (Aug 24) just at the Apollo Cinema in London (close to Piccadilly Circus)...no screenings to critics, so no reviews (well likely very few..some may be sent to it to view on the day)... likely it won't last long on the screen.

Just finished watching my recording of Part 1. It showed last night on NZ free-to-air TV. Part 2 is showing next week. Part 1 was shown over 2 hours, interspersed with a lot of ads - so probably about 80-85 minutes of the actual prog.

Interesting visuals. Very good cast. Very relevant topic. I have some queries about the strategies for evacuating the population. But will leave my comment til it's available in the UK.

Nigel Planner in a serious role??? And looking pretty aged too!

anychance you can slap it online?...veoh, google video, you tube?...

Sorry, I'm on dial-up so I can't really upload vids.

According to Play.com the DVD will be released on 29 October 2007.

Now also on Amazon here http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flood-Jessalyn-Gilsig/dp/B000VIRD9C/ref=sr_1_12/203-0901684-8388726?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1188942652&sr=8-12
with the same date of 29 October 2007. Both Amazon and CD-WOW refer to it as Region 2, but that may be due to me looking at the UK parts.

CD-WOW, HMV and Virgin aren't currently showing it as a forthcoming release.

I think I now know why it didn't get a cinema release, it's rubbish!
