the supermarket scene

Can we just take a moment to appreciate how powerful the scene is where Ron 'convinces' his dick of an associate to shake Rayon's hand. Just, wow.

I agree, this was the best scene in the film because of the way it changed the relationship between the two leads, which was really the heart of the story. I sat there and clapped. Just beautifully done, right down to his hilarious command afterwards to put the potato chips back. This is what great storytelling is about.

Also important, in a tiny aside, was Ron's whisper to the assistant to "keep an eye on that monkey" (Rayon) while Ron was out of town, after having bawled Rayon out for being high. Ron had become the big brother, but it was never over-expressed.

The other really amazing scene, for me, was Rayon's visit to her father. That was the payoff for that character- it really peeled back the layers on an entire life.

Ron really changed as a person---from the start of the movie when he is bashing Rock Hudson to openly defending Rayon. It shows how he evolved.

It has nothing to do with the real life person who was not homophobic and was comfortable around the LGBT community. This was invented for the movie to create this "journey."
