Very inaccurate

The medication in the film didn't work for the purpose that they were trying to market it for, that's why it wasn't approved to begin with. The guy basically sentenced these people to an earlier death because they were buying this crap instead of seeking legitimate treatments.
That's also the difference between FDA approved pharmaceuticals and holistic treatments/unapproved drugs. Pharmaceuticals that are FDA approved actually have to perform the task they claim to do, and holistic treatments and herbal supplements are under no such burden. The pharmaceutical industry's only crime is that they rob people with ridiculous pricing.

Did you even listen to what they were saying in the movie or did you just watch it half asleep?

Being very skeptical and science-minded, I would typically agree with you. Hawking snake oil to dying people is basically what the holistic industry is. Telling cancer patients to just eat organic and take vitamins when there are medical procedures proven to fight it off in the early stages. Remedies found in nature (extracted directly from plants and bugs) do not contain enough of the healing compound found in them to do any good...you would have to consume unrealistic amounts of these things for them to usually work.

Buuuut on the other hand, this was a very grave time in medicine in which the FDA didn't find enough urgency in ending and/or treating an epidemic. It costs a lot of money and takes years of testing but also bureaucratic red tape to have drugs approved by them and people were dying, and desperate. People were dying within months, and he added an extra 7 years to his life by taking drugs that may not be approved, but are pharmaceutical strength (as opposed to herbal supplements).

Now I'm no scientist so I technically don't know what I'm talking about. Lol...and I also know that anecdotal evidence is not and should not be recognized as evidence, but in this special circumstance in which he survived years longer than most others with the same illness, I find that pretty impactful. I mean tell me you wouldn't have tried anything if you had AIDS back then and were sure to die a fast and painful death.
