what the hell is with the ending?

Why where they showing how they did audience disappearing act? It's just so wrong and stupid. Doesn't fit with characters too. It was supposed to be a usual bittersweet ending but ended with Breaking Bad vibe.

I think it's the funniest thing in the movie and kind of fits with the grand ridiculousness that is stage magic. We all know modern stage magic is just overblown carnival hooey, but we like it anyway.

if jean didn't make out with burt then it's really funny, but jean ditch grey because he's "gross:, and fall for someone who drugged the entire audience

reply

Yup, I agree with you. I was thinking they were going to show moving the people when they first did the trick but they didn't. The movie ended on a really positive note and they didn't need to point out the ridiculousness of them tossing the bodies around. Should have left it out IMO, it wasn't necessary and it was pretty predictable that there was going to be a gag of how they got all the people back and forth.

Although, I will say I still really enjoyed the movie. Gave it an 8/10.

Personally I thought the 'storyline' of the last 15minutes of the movie was just terrible. Well Jim Carrie finally drilling himself was an OK way for him to go, off his rocker for good. But The stupid concept of the disappearing audience, was just dumb. When the lady, says, umm "that's illegal", they were all like: 'Ok', or when 'Steve' said, 'somebody could die', again this seemed to just pass. So I had real trouble 'suspending the disbelief' to swallow the ending. It just didn't make any sense, and wasn't funny. One question I had... As illustrated in the lower part of my comment. 'No Vegas Law enforcement/hotel security saw them carrying bodies around?'

The writers needed to be bonked in the head. There needed to be a great act, where they really got back at Jim Carrie's character, the 3 of them together. In the version they filmed, the girl didn't do anything at all.

Now on the completely other hand. It was slightly humorous to watch the ending credits sequence, where they showed the complete ridiculousness of the concept of the above. They were dragging bodies around, and throwing them in cargo spots, careful to not damage them, and when they did, they put make up on them... obviously stupid and impossible, but this was actually worth a couple of chuckles...

reply

Yeah the ending was really stupid... a shame really, everything else up to that point was great.

well it would seem there are not enough camers in Vegas

It was too unrealistic that they would undertake such a daunting task for every show. The 3 of them moving an entire audience back and forth? I know the movie itself is unrealistic but that was just too much.

However, as you said, it was funny to see them dragging the people around.

reply

I turned it off right before this scene because I thought it was over.... as far as I'm concerned this ending where they show them transporting the people doesn't exist.... I edited the movie to cut that part out on my version... it just ends after they show Carrey with the drill bit in his head and the three go and bow to the audience...

reply

They were definitely making fun of themselves showing how silly their disappearing audience trick was. I thought it was the funniest part of the movie.

reply

I really thought that Jane would join the other two and they would do a really big, elaborate trick that Jane had been wanting to do since she started out as a magician.

The ending was lame.

reply

I thought the ending was hilarious, I loved it, them tossing the bodies around, and I loved Steve Buscemi in this, he was so funny, "I can't understand what you are saying" "what if someone dies ?" ha ha

reply

I completely agree, dollfacecrafter

Brilliant idea. She was not much more than a pretty face (shwing!) thru the whole movie. She could have been whining to do her great trick, and inthe end they finally do it and she totally vanishes...for real.

reply

The ending was absolutely ridiculous and hardly even funny. I'm almost positive they didn't put much though into it.

reply

you just lack a sense of humour

i believe the writers were much aware of the implausability of the final act. They knew the audiance would naturally question the ethical aspects and the legal consequences. Thats probably why they go for thhay final scene; some kind of a parody of their own writing. Thats how i understood it anyway and they succedded upto a point imo.

a parody of their own writing.

Well said!

I rather liked the ending as it was surprisingly novel.
