Sad how it became a "jerk learns to be a good guy" storyline

I'm tired of movies that believe we should see the journey of a failed person, trying to make a comeback by learning how to be a good person. It's like the oldest story-arch in storytelling.

This movie started off as a good "age versus youth" storyline between Carrell and Carey (despite Carey not being younger, but his character meant to be Chris Angel.)

I thought "what a great story, take an underexplored industry, "illusionist", and make jokes around a story exploring the move from illusions to extreme magic as we've seen with Angel and Blane.

But Carey disappears and by the time he reappears, the movie has already lost any appeal.

The story is that Burt has been blinded by fame and fortune, as does happen with many celebrities, and has forgotten why he chose to become a magician, he's lost the love for the art. It even cost him his friendship with his childhood best friend.

I think Steve gray proves that Burt isn't the hottest thing around anymore and it forces him to re examine his life and career and rediscover the love for magic.
