did not get ending????

was she dying and dreaming? did she live and go to prison? then he waited for her?

reply

I was wondering the same thing...the ending totally had me lost...

reply

that was our conclusion after thinking about it for a while. very forgiving man!!

reply

i came here in hopes of someone understanding the last 2 minutes lol. someone has to!

reply

I think Marla (Kelly Carlson) survived the shooting and was sent to prison for a while, and on her release a prison guard or parole officer flew her back to meet Parker. As she was getting off the plane Parker said, "you look good". As I said before, he must have been a very forgiving man to take her back. This is what we concluded. If you have any more ideas, please inform me. I am open to suggestions. We were very surprised it ended that way.

reply

The guy flying her back on the plane was the Police Captain/Chief that had been at the house earlier when they showed up after Alfonso was killed. On the plane he said "20 years is a long time" and asked if her if he would be waiting for her. I was very confused also at the last 2 minutes! It appeared she was dying and apologizing for what she had done but then she was alive and it did not obviously appear to be 20 or any years later! And he WAS a VERY forgiving man unless he was in on it all along, too? I KNEW she was in on it as soon as Val and the others appeared! But it was really good and fun to watch and suspenseful except the last 2 minutes were confusing.

reply

I'm not so sure, the guard/parole guy said "10 years is a long time to go away"...so what we saw when she got off the plane was 10 years later??

I think she got shot, survived, went to prison, and imagined the rest, like her 'post-prison' fantasy.

Thoughts??

reply

Possibly was a 'post-prison' fantasy since she did demonstrate quite an imagination and possessed deceiving qualities. Although l0 years does seem like a "fair" time to serve considering what she did even though she would have been considered a hero for saving the good guys. She still was involved. I still think she came back to him and he welcomed her with open arms. His love for her was very deep. Poor sucker!

Good acting.

reply

I had closed captioning on, it was 2 years that she went away for not 10. I think he forgave her and they are together. Lifetime movies usually with a happy ending for women.

Yep. That's what the police chief said, "Two years."

"Self-reflection is the hardest thing for SOME people to do!"

I am the writer/producer of "Break-In" and would be interested to hear more discussion of this subject. Our intent was to create an ending that made people wonder and ask questions. We felt if Marla just died, that would be too downbeat. But if she got away and lived happily ever after with Cameron, that would be too simplistic. And if she just ended up going to jail, that wouldn't be satisfying.

Yes, there's an argument to be made for the ending being Marla's "dying dream." She has found a man she truly loves and wants his forgiveness. That she finds herself in the lavatory of the plane just like in the beginning was our way to bring the story full circle. She then finds her ring and her broken watch in the police envelope, those being symbols of her love for Cameron and the moment in time when everything changed (we see her wearing the watch just before the break-in but not after).

We wanted the ending to be different and to cause people to think and question it. IMHO, far too many movies end with everything tied up in a neat little bow.

I do appreciate everyone's comments and thank you for watching. "Break-In" will air again on Lifetime August 25.

Great job casting Kelly Carlson...my god she is unbelievably stunning

reply

We will surely watch "Break-In" again on August 25 to let our own imagination wander a little. Very well-done, and the acting was great--especially Marla. She knows when and where and how to express herself and is very convincing to the audience. I think she fell in love deeply with Cameron and was not expecting that. Goes to show how we can get ourselves into trouble without even trying very hard. This is a good movie for young people to see with good morals. We really enjoyed the movie. Will think about it a little more and maybe come up with another solution after the next viewing. Thanks, Matt, for a good entertaining evening.

At the beginning half of movie, when the bad guys broke in, What was the substance the girl was forced to drink, that made her sick? I missed the part leading up to this incident. Sue

reply

they had all been drinking and playing pool, and she had drank too much ... the substance was some kind of alcohol and she didn't want to drink any more or she would get sick

reply

I missed the first half, when will this air again?

Mr. Dorff:

As a teacher who has taught both English and Film Study courses at the high school and college levels for more than 25 years, I was rather intrigued by your explanation of the ending of your film.

First of all, ambiguity, when used with skill and wit, can be a pleasant diversion from the stories and films you are "tied up in a neat little bow." (Actually, they are tied up WITH a neat little bow.) But your film, which I have watched a number of times (mostly because I am in love with Kelly Carlson--she is as stunning and as sexy as Charlize Theron), has neither skill nor wit in terms of its use of ambiguity. If you want to see a film with an ambgiuous ending superbly done, buy a print of "Citizen Kane." What Welles and Mankiewicz did with that screenplay not only demonstrates the possibilities for ambiguous endings, but also shows how misdirected and poorly written your screenplay is.

Secondly, do not dodge the issue of your ineptness by claiming that you wanted people to enter into discussions. Good writers, great writers, intelligent writers, as opposed to hacks, always direct their readers' perceptions so that intelligent assessments can be made that satisfy all the conditions of the plot and characters to that point. Your ending just throws the entire situation up for grabs with not one iota of direction for your viewers/readers. And that is a serious defect in your script. Begging the question and dodging the issue with the comments you made about what your intentions were are all beside the point. The work should speak for itself--and yours speaks mostly gibberish.

I trust in the future you will be more careful with your writing, your plot lines, and your story structures.

Sometimes old sayings are accurate. Those who can, do; those who can't, teach.

reply

Relax traseb. Not every movie has to be Citizen Kane or an Oscar contender. Shish!

reply

So is it only a "dream" or is it a reality? I was awfully confused and can not figure it out for the life of me.

Ok so I got something totally different out of the ending. I guess being a police officers wife made me think that maybe the "10 years" was the time she was undercover trying to catch this one guy and she was playing him the entire time. She ended up falling in love with Cameron and so that is why she was with him in the end, because he did not have to forgive her since she was really not scaming him. The guy was giving her back her personal belongings and saying 10 years is a long time meaning a long time to be "on the job" but I guess I was way off base. Oh well, I have a great imagination.

reply

well, i got an even different impression of the ending. and this took me about 10 minutes after the movie was over to wrap my mind around it. i think she took the police detective with her on the trip. the one they talked to on the plane about being newlyweds. he was scouting out the place the entire time. then when alfonso got shot, he knew something had gone wrong. they came to search the place, and that's when he found her watch. she was scamming both men, in essence, but only out of her love for cameron. when he brought his sister and her hubby over, it spoiled the plan. the only glitch i find in this option is that she didn't fly home with her husband. and the only explanation i could come up with for that is this...the sister (and chester...i know, it's really parker) came over on a private jet. they must have taken cameron home with them. she stayed on the island and recovered from being shot, then returned home, only to find open arms of forgiveness from her husband. yes, i watch too many lifetime movies, btw.

reply

No, no, no.

What happened was that she was a double agent. She worked for the police and her mission was to nab people that were robbing rich people. She was sent out to find these people, get on their good side then take them down. The whole 10 years thing was referring to when she first went into the field.

Or am I just crazy?

reply

It was also kinda like watching Kelly Carlson on Nip/Tuck. That show always ends strange too. But still love the show!!

reply

I felt she did her time and came back to him, what a guy! I don't recall your userid but need to be rude to Mr Dorff, it won't win an academy award but it kept my interest for two hours and many movies don't accomplish that.

reply

It seemed to me that she was dreaming about being with him while she was dying or something like that. At least, that's how I interpreted the ending.
