Why are all you people tripping?

I don't understand all the hate for this movie. Just because your high school experience may have been different than this doesn't mean this wasn't a realistic portrayal of anyone else's.

A lot of the characters in this movie reminded me of myself and people I knew in high school. I thought the acting was fantastic all around and I enjoyed watching this thoroughly.

Why are so many imdb-ers so god damned malicious?

This. Couldn't have said it better myself!

Not a big fan of the movie but solid point. Who cares if a movie matches your life experience? People are different. Besides it's fiction, not a documentary. I would have welcomed more of the fantastic.

My problem is that I missed the point. Seems like it's just young people partying. That's NOT what Dazed & Confused was. D&C had character-driven humor & a good message.

I don't know why I come back to dog this movie. I enjoyed D&C and have reason to suspect the creators of this movie did, too. Had pleasant cinematography. There are good instincts behind this movie. Maybe I wanted it to be more.

I'm with Noufa, I just wasn't in the target audience. My high school experience was nothing like this (I kinda kept to myself so maybe drugs and alcohol actually were as prevalent as in this film). I do understand that this is probably what a lot of people did experience though, and I think the movie was just trying to portray a day in the life of these kids. It went more for realism and not for some big story arc (whether that makes an entertaining movie is another question).

I have to ask though: do kids really talk to their parents the way these kids do? I understand being that age and thinking of your parents as annoying and clueless, but actually saying "F--- you" to their face and slamming doors, and the parents just going away quietly? I can't believe that's realistic.

When I was that age I *Did* talk to my parents like that and I was that age to close to this time in the film. I'm not proud of it, but it's extremely common.

Interesting point, Jon_Death. Although I wouldn't group all of the characters into the group of "high school peakers," at least in my experience. Sure, a handful of them could become that hypothetically, but I believe several of them had good heads on their shoulders and probably had exit strategies. Binge drinking or doing drugs for a short period of time is not the end all, be all for everyone. For some it is, but I doubt the two girls who did mushrooms are going to go and become worthless meth-heads. And I believe the cheerleader and the boy she ended up with probably had good things ahead of them, not to mention the boy who took all the pictures!

I thought this movie was alright. I think it's unfair to hate it because it doesn't match your own experiences though. I didn't do any of that stuff in high school. Heck I had my first alcoholic drink at 18 which was probably much older than most. Then I remember that I had a 15 year old friend with me the first time I drank and have done many things with her that were sketch and she was in high school for all of it. I remember her texting me telling me she had been partying basically all week long, gave her boyfriend money for acid, etc. and this was all while she was in high school, so some people really do all these things.

In ways though I think this movie was just as representative of a college experience. Also not all of the characters in this movie appeared to party like this all the time. It seemed clear that the guys in the band basically smoked weed and such, but didn't really go to keg style parties much. I don't find that unusual at all because I knew many people like that in high school. Also the one girl who did shrooms appeared to be very smart and just did shrooms to try something new and go crazy because she never did in high school. The movie basically revolved around graduating so I don't think it's that strange that people would party on graduation night.

I think some people just dislike these movies though because they show this extreme partying and some people don't do that. I have never been a huge partier and never saw a single party while I was in high school (college ones have matched this movie pretty well). However, I did know many people that did these things in high school so again doesn't match my reality but matches someone else's.

I was in high school the year the movie was set. I graduated in 2000 and I 100% related to this movie. A part of me thinks it doesn't what year you were in high school anyone can relate to it but at the same time it is somewhat a generational thing. At my high school there were no defined cliques, everyone was friends with everyone and I didn't go to a small high school. Everyone partied, most drank and smoked weed and some did other drugs. I guess you could call my high school a party school. Like I said, you didn't have to be in high school in the late 90s to relate but I think it helps. I loved this movie. I felt like every character reminded me of one of my friends.
