Anyone here LIKE Deck the Halls?

Anyone?

I haven't seen it yet, but I will waste $5.99 renting it mostly because of Matthew Broderick.

Also, I work at a youth centre and a kid that goes there is in it. So I'm hoping to spot him.

Other than that, any Broderick fans have any good reviews of this movie?

reply

It's not the best Christmas movie. It was pretty chessy, but all films like this are in some way. And it's predictable. But other than that I thought the movie was good. I laughed so hard on some parts I started to cry. It's got some mature humor for it's rating. I'd give it a 6/10

*Small Spoiler*

I thought the little show Danny Devito's character did with house lights was awsome.

"What the hell am I? I forgot what I am... how embarrassing." - Matthew Broderick

reply

Yeah I like it too...I just stopped coming here b/c the majority of the ppl here hate this movie & when I would say anything positive about it some jizzwad would just insult me.

"Ya ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?"

reply

I liked it.

reply

I liked it. it was far from the best movie, but it was enjoyable.

reply

It's not that I didn't like it...however I thought Matthew Broderick was a horrible miscast for the film. I think someone a little more animated would have been better for the role. Also the scene at the end was a bit much for me. I rated it a 6 but had it not been for the scene at the end I probably would have given it an 8. I really enjoyed the filming location for the movie not too many of those quiet pretty little towns left.

reply

It's a BAD imitation copy cat version of Christmas Vacation. It had no heart and soul.

reply

Yes - It made me laugh. The movie was a showcase of off the wall gags and totally dumb sex jokes. Matthew Broderick plays the role of the straight man; he takes pride in bringing a beautiful Christmas to his community. Danny DeVito moves in with his nutsy family, who's characters you could relate to the Married with Children TV show. DeVito is so delightfully inconsistent, obnoxious in one scene, lovable in the next, but the silly plot holds together because it's all in good fun. If you are looking for warm, gentle holiday oriented entertainment, this movie is not for you. This is a spoof of those movies, with no holiday message except that it is fine season to sit back, lighten up, and have some fun.

I really liked it. I went to see it with my dad and we laughed so hard we both satrted to cry!

Danny rocked in his charactor and his house lights were amazing in this film!!!

reply

I didn't think it was that great, but far from being the worst Christmas movie I've seen.

reply

Whatever.

reply

I liked it better than The Holiday.

My rankings for Christmas themed films from late 2006 are ( fav to least fav )

Unaccompanied Minors
Santa Claus 3
Deck the Halls
The Holiday

reply

I hav 2 admit, i thoroughly enjoyed it

Yea, whatever angelavd487... That's just crap and it's not true. Whoever started that chain-letter doesn't know what they're talking about. Wow, I'm soooo scared... LOL...

I appreciate this movie for what it is, a break from the stresses of getting it all done for the holidays. We all get so busy during this time of year & need a little silliness. As far as casting Mathew Broderick, I think it was great, for those of us who are his age, it reminds us that we are partly still Ferris Bueller & part responsible adult now. It's just fun & does it's job well.
Movies: Now more than ever.

i really liked it. its nothing that you havent seen in every other recent xmas movie (ie. two wealthy families trying to show one another up). I think Danny and Matt knew how silly the whole concept was and decided to have fun with it and that makes it fun for the audience

teonanacatl you said "DANNY BRODERICK AND MATHEW DEVITO" you got their names wrong its Danny Devito and Mathew Broderick .
but as for the movie i happen to like it . its not the best holiday movie nor is it the worst either i give it a 6/10 . got to admit at first i didnt think the movie was going to be all that funny but when i watched it i bout cried with laughter .

theirs an old saying
"Opinions are like A**holes everyone has one"

reply

Ok, I think teonanacatl was being sarcastic by mixing the names about, even so the fact he is ripping on people rating a Christmas movie without actually saying anything about the film sums up his intelligence, just take everything said two posts above as someone with far too much time on their hands and more then likely no life what so ever.

Now in respect of the FILM and not sad people bashing, it was actually quite surprising, you cannot watch a film like this without expecting some cheesy elements, but that aside, as most have mentioned the performances (on the whole) were not bad and it is different from the normal Christmas stories usually portrayed in these seasonal "cash in" movies. If you are looking for a good family "Christmas" movie then this will suit, as mentioned not up there with the greats but good nether less.

reply

Well...this movie did just not do it for me.I'm not gonna bash it right away but instead list SOME things I enjoyed.

1:st of all....Danny's wife was so friggin...I mean...as a man...have to say "I'd do her!" ;) No, she was very appealing to me.

2:nd The lightshow was alright

3:rd.....3:rd....hmm...nope...can't honestly think of anything more.

Some1 said that Mathew Broderick was a horrible cast and I couldn't agree more. Danny is a sure thing in these movies but he needs a better actor to play against.

No, done bashin....else ppl will get upset and I wouldn't want that. Btw 2/10 because a poor movie with an aweful ending.

reply

It's not a holiday classic like Home Alone, Christmas Vacation or any of those great comedy's but it has it's moments. I give it a 6 out of 10, I would defintely watch it again next holiday season.

reply

it was a good movie. there were some funny parts.

reply

I liked it.

predictable, yes.
enjoyable, yes.

i mean, come on. it was a christmas movie. and very rarely will you get a really good, NEW idea that becomes a good movie. cut it some slack.

reply

I think it pales in comparison to National Lampoon's and Home For The Holidays but, it did decent in terms of Christmas themed movies. There was a scene or two I thought was hilarious. Danny Devito heating up Mathew Broderick in the van had me laughing. The music/light show was impressive and the light/walk and dinner was cool. It just had a lot of cheesy elements ...

One, being Danny Devito's wife. She was atrocious. Whoever said she was good looking obviously is a shallow nimrod.

The town was really nifty and it put you in the Christmas mood, although if anything, the film reminded you mainly of National Lampoon's and better pieces of films you've seen before.

I think mainly the feeling of indifference I feel towards it speaks volumes. It's not worth putting down a lot, but not worth a lot of praise. It overall leaves you with an empty feeling. They can thank the wife (in my opinion) to that, and also a lack of originality. Most of the scenes were just not funny. But hey, you at least have two great actors, which is more than a lot of films out there can say.

4/10. Deserving of it's rating.

Not the best christmas movie I've ever seen, but I did laugh at times so it's certainly not the worst (jingle all the way anyone?). Also, the person two posts above me, how can you hate on kristen chenowith? Have you ever seen pushing daisies? She is a great actress as well as beautiful and she has a lovely singing voice.

are you an official here? cause you officially just gave me a boner. (chazz michael michaels)
