cancelled? what a dumb move

the last one with the mock funeral was so funny! if this show was on a real network, it might have had a chance. CW, go suck a bag of Dhickz

reply

That is too bad. One of the funniest shows ever plus it had a moral that was really touching. I cannot find any DVD release either. Is there one or will there be one?

reply

It said that this week coming up is the season finale

COME ON! This show can't be cancelled. I love this program!!!

Although I'm sad to see this show go, I can't say I'm surprised. It wasn't a fit for the CW at all; all their other sitcoms are urban-targeted, while AIA is in the same kind of genre as shows like Malcolm in the Middle. Still, if the show had been promoted properly by the CW, rather than having all the advertising budget go to Gossip Girl, it just might have had a chance.

reply

the show was originally suppose to air on NBC, not The CW. But I'm pretty sure NBC would've canceled it too just like Freaks & Geeks. Goddamn networks these days don't give anything a chance.

now go home and get your fuckin shine box!

reply

Yeah, they didn't even advertise the following week's episode at the end of each episode.

reply

Ugh, they can work their asses off for Gossip Girl which still underperformed, but they couldn't try even a little bit harder with this?

Will it at least be released on DVD?
I still can't seem to think of a good reason to cancel this. It's one of the best things I've seen on TV. Ever.

reply

It's official, they did cancelled this show and May 13,2008 was the last telecast of this series after 22 episodes. At least it did last its entire season. Also to point out the CW has also cancelled the following shows as well......
"Girlfriends"-the longest running black oriented sitcom that was both on UPN and CW gone after eight seasons. They didn't even air the last two episodes of this series.

"Friday Night Smackdown"-moves to My Network TV coming 10/3/2008. Was suppose to make its move over to FOX,but FOX rejected it. The CW has moved "Everybody Hates Chris",and "The Game" to Friday nights in place of Smackdown. These two shows(which has garnered a huge black audience)will not survive Fridays.

"Life Is Wild"-the show that replaced the long-running "7th Heaven",also cancelled after 17 episodes.

reply

I never liked the CW, it is a horrible network, Aliens in America probably would've stood a better chance on the UPN, if were still around.

I hope the CW sinks into the ground.

Almost every show has went down significantly on this network, the merger was horrible idea.

reply

I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS SHOW IS BEING CANCELED! This show was funny, well-acted, well-written, and even threw in a decent message. The CW is ridiculous. This is one of the best new shows, and it only got one season. RIDICULOUS!

reply

Agree with the sentiment. I haven't watched a comedy as faithfully as this one in many years. This move shows the CW has basically fired themselves. They were steadfastly determined to be THE network for the 18-34 "demo" and failed. Meanwhile, they actually did something right by giving this show a shot, even if it appealed to those over 34. Still with the whole foundation that gave birth to the WB/CW(this silly idea that having a 16 year age range of viewers means major success)having collapsed, I imagine it was to just easier to throw in the towel and outsource the whole night. Fighting to keep the show was an unnecessary use of energy.

reply

I'm in the same boat, Kennesi. I've not watched any comedies in years until this show! I have enjoyed it so much and I'm really shocked and saddened that they are canceling it! I'm so sick of seeing ads for that dumb GossipGirl show. Aliens was funny and had meaning at the same time. It wasn't just "fluff" and a bunch of materialistic brats parading about like morons half-dressed, like every other show nowadays.

reply

What is it with the CW, anyway? While I love Gossip Girl, I feel like they did advertise it way too much and they barely promoted Aliens in America.

Blah.

reply

the cw is not urban targeted. gossip girl, one tree hill, reaper, the "geek" reality show and so on are not "urban"

reply

I agree 100%. Aliens in America was one of the few comedies I watched. It was funny and had a good moral each week without being sappy or silly. I never felt as if it was preachy. The writing was sharp (rare in an age when snarky passes for witty and intelligent) and the acting (esp from the young leads) was really good!

I am so tired of networks targeting all of their efforts on creating shows that appeal to the so called advertiser ideal of the 18 to 34 year old super consumer. Wake up and smell the coffee...those of us older than 34 like to watch television and we tend to make more money than younger people. I recently read in an marketing journal (I do know something about that industry as I have been working in advertising and marketing for years) that the median age of TV viewers is now 50. CW, how many 50 year olds really care about shows like Gossip Girl or a re-vamped version of BH90210? And how much "reality" programming do we need, honestly?

I know that scripted shows are more expensive than "reality" programming but if the sitcom or drama is actually good (and promoted correctly), folks will watch which means there will be eyes for your advertisers.

RIP Aliens in America, you will be missed!

I confess that I didn't see this show when it was airing but I did recently download the first (and only) season from iTunes. I loved it! The scripts got better and better as the first season moved on and it was good to start with. One of the things I like is that some episodes are written to address the different cultural values of the characters but sometimes it's just a good sitcom about a family. It was never out to beat you over the head with heavy morals. The cast was awesome. This is a show that should have produced Emmy nominations. I'm so sorry this show isn't coming back. It was one of the few bright spots on television.

I am so bummed that they are cancelling this show. I'm 38 and I watched with my 12 year old son. We both got something from it. I am also a Scott Patterson fan. I loved that the show didn't fully revolve around the fact that that Raja was a muslim. It was there, but not in the forefront, and it came about by the way he reacted to thing. And most of the eps were about the family and not him and his struggles living in a foreign country with people that hated him. It really focused on the positives and show him as an intelectual, and a good person. A regular guy so to speak, like many arabs living here are. A good message without saying a message. And the show was funny as hell too. The Church ep cracked me up the most.

I totally agree with you. I am in the 18-34 age range, and I don't really care for "Gossip Girl" or "90210". I loved "Aliens In America", and I wish it wasn't cancelled. Since this show was breath taking and actually well written, common sense dictates that the all knowing execs at the CW should cancel this show.

The fact that this show was cancelled shows what's wrong with society today.

To stupid people everywhere: Thank you for brightening my day!
