I have got to hand it to Quebec filmmakers. They make excellent pics. I have seen several recently and this is one of them. In English Canada we just seem to regurgitate American crap. Great job Quebecers. No wonder so many Franco phones want out. They don't want to see our crappy movies anymore.

I wouldn't say that. In my opinion, English Canada has great talents and make great movies but they are in direct competition with the US for screen time. If you want to see them, you have to go within two weeks and they're gone. Also, since there are no star systems in English Canada, most talent will leave for New York and Los Angeles as soon as they have something worthwhile to show.
Movies in Quebec will sometimes have to wait 2-5 years before production can start to get enough funding. And by enough, I mean just barely possible to make the movie. So to convince investors, they have to create an appealing scenario for the masses, and most of the parts are already given to French Canadian movie stars. It's not uncommon for some movie to not even have casting sessions for roles over 10 lines.
I'm not saying it's better or worst, but if we continue not to take risks with our movie industry, our product is going to be pretty bland.
We're almost out of independent productions already.
And by the way, my favorite Canadian movie, coast to coast, is an English language one.
'Nitro' may be a flawed mish-mash of genres, but let me tell you that as a non-canadian, the cinema of Canada is known "mainly" because of its Québec films plus the works from Atom Egoyan and Cronenberg's early (canadian) films. You can add to the list Sarah Polley's 'Away from Her'.
The canadian films in english sometimes are hard to differentiate from USA films. Perhaps because lots of Hollywood films are shot in Canada or maybe because "most" of the english-speaking actors (and filmmakers) from Canada works in Hollywood too. IMO that's why canadian movies in english feels if not identical, close enough to the movies shot in USA.
In the other hand, the Québec films, in particular the movies directed by Denys Arcand (Jésus de Montréal, Les invasions barbares, Le déclin de l'empire américain, etc.) are truly unique. Vraiment canadiens.
