Why does this show get so much hate? (Major Spoilers)
Yea, it was a bit campy and probably historically inaccurate (which adaptation is 100% anyway?) compared to the other version from the early 1980s. It might even be a little too much for the anti-PC crowd what with black people having such prominent roles in a time when you could count the number of black people in England on one hand (I mean that literally), but overall I think it works.
The story-telling is decent and the characters are likable enough for use to feel for them. Robin's death was also heartbreaking but really well-done. Not quite as awesome and epic as Michael Praed's version, but good nonetheless.
And special kudos to the Gisburne character. His transformation from the "dark side" to the "light side" was done convincingly enough and his final redemption was awesome. As soon as he realized that he was not responsible for his parents' death, all of the guilt left him, followed promptly by all of the anger and hatred. I truly enjoyed seeing him as a good guy towards the end. If George Lucas had taken a lesson from these writers when writing Anakin Skywalker's story arc in the prequels (but in the opposite direction), the prequels could have been must better.
On a side-note, the actress that played Isabelle was GORGEOUS. I loved every one of her close-up shots because she was so pretty. I was really upset when they made her go dark side, especially considering how sloppily it was done.
I thinks not, Terrell. I thinks not
