What exactly was Marian feeling for Guy?

I just don't understand her because she's supposedly deceiving him most of the time so hard to use her words as any evidence to her true feelings for him. Any ideas?

At first she really despised him, then she realized that deep down there was a man of honor... he just got mixed up with the wrong people. I don't think she's in love with him, but I think she sees that there's good in him.

Lust

reply

I'd definitely have lust for him...I'm guessing she does too. :)

reply

I agree with lust -- which she feels guilty about being as she's a goody-two-shoes and he's a bad guy.

reply

My interpretation was, that she wasn't entirely immune to the fact that he pursued her so intensely. _Robin_ wasn't after her in that intensity. I think she was somewhat flattered by Guys attempts. At times he did seem to really love her.

reply

Attraction. That much is clear when she sees him shirtless. I don't blame her. She also seemed to have some affection for him.

reply

As she said herself: He had qualities.

reply

well if she's anything like me she's having a hard time remembering his villainy when that gravelly voice gets all tender on her and he does that smolder. RA is just too hot. If only they'd gotten a Robin in the same league so I didn't find myself rootingfor the bad guy!

reply

Sometimes I think even she was confused as to what she felt for him. There were a few instances when he went to kiss her and she didn't pull away, plus, there was an episode where Guy was trying on some armor (shirtless, of course), and when Marian walked in, the look on her face, before he noticed she was there, clearly said "Hot DAMN".

I'm not sure Marian herself knew what her true feelings for Guy were. She was probably feeling completely confused, and as such was probably in complete denial of any true feelings she had for him, mainly because of her commitment to Robin and because of the way Guy has treated her in the past: at some point she probably thought it would be wrong to have real feelings for someone as dangerous as him, someone who was on opposite sides of her fight, as opposed to someone like Robin, who fought for justice and peace and who was, essentially, a good person.

On the one hand, she knew there was a good side to Guy, that he was capable of doing good deeds when he wanted to or when he wasn't being influenced by the Sheriff, but she was also perfectly aware of how despicable and horrible he could be, and how powerful the Sheriff's influence over him was. There was also the delicate situation she was in, when she was locked up in the castle: on the one hand that was the perfect opportunity to spy on Guy and the Sheriff, and report their plans to Robin, but it also meant quite a bit of contact with Guy, where she would have to keep up some facade of some kind, mainly showing some kind of attraction to him (in order to keep on getting what she wanted out of him), while still maintaining a careful distance, all of which must have been very difficult to do.

I do believe there was physical attraction (such as when he took his shirt off- I think that completely took her by surprise and probably made it quite difficult to concentrate on why she was there and what she wanted out of him); furthermore, she really liked the idea of him being her "project", of being the one to bring out the goodness in him.

Another thing to point out: I think she enjoys how much he seems to love her, how he seems to make her the center of his world, or to the very least that she is very high up on his list of priorities. Robin doesn't seem to do this, even though he really loves Marian, he doesn't show it in the passionate way Guy does.

Also, Marian's feelings for Guy clearly evolve throughout the series: at first she shows nothing but disdain and contempt for him, but in Season 2 that slowly changes as she learns more about him and his potential for goodness. She probably becomes even more confused.

Ok, so I'm pretty sure there was more I wanted to say, but right now that's all I can think of. I hope I made sense!

I think she also felt how socially inept he was and felt a little sorry for him. He picked the worst times to try to express himself. My favorite was when she was in mourning and he says something like, "What better way to mourn than to create new life?" Ummm, did he he just offer to get her pregnant? Yes, please! ?

I think he rather meant that she could turn a new page in life and thought the timing was good, because if someone dies, life changes anyway and why not turn a bad change into a good one: marry him and create new life instead of the lost one.

marry him and create new life instead of the lost one.

I took it as more of a proposal than a 'hey let's make a baby'

reply

Yes, well, that what I meant too. Create new life=have a new life with him.

reply

Sorry, I was trying to agree with you. 

That is EXACTLY what I was thinking, with regards to his behavior after Edward died. Especially in the immediate aftermath, when his idea of comforting her is to kiss her. I just sort of shook my head and said "Oh Guy, you really don't have a clue, do you." But I agree that he was very socially inept, and that was the only thing he could think to do to try and ease her pain a bit. He did apologize, but then he tacked on the part about the possibility that one day she might actually reciprocate his feelings. A part of me wonders if Guy would ever go home and bang his head on the wall over how ridiculously he acted towards her on occasion....
