Our family is Irish and Native American (Illini). My sister has dark hair, nearly black eyes, and medium-toned skin; I have coppery/auburn hair, dark brown eyes and very fair skin. Coloration is mixed throughout both sides of our family.
What is the big fuss about this?! All of the time we have actors of various backgrounds playing characters of another. Louis Gossett, Jr., played Anwar Sadat! Anthony Quinn, whose father was Irish and mother was Mexican, portrayed various nationalities: Native American, Greek, Italian, Eskimo/Inuit, etc. Acting isn't restricted to race. Most of the roles Morgan Freeman has played originally were not written for a Black actor, but he made them his own. It's a little tiring to see this bigotry continue. I'm a Baby Boomer, born in 1951, and it seems that the racism is worse since "PC" started being thrown around. Where did the thinking go so wrong?
By the way: I take this story that I'm presently watching with a mega-grain of salt. Let's see: I glower at cameras, wear black, including having raccoon eyes, scowl at everyone, sulk and pout, then wonder why rumors start about me?! Now, she's claiming to do things! Of course the girl got in trouble! What an idiotic thing to do! Instead of denying and explaining, she's getting herself ostracized. That's stupidity on HER part!
I was a loner in school, from grade school through college, who read about mythology/folklore, including Wicca and the rest long before it was popularized. But, I was never branded as a witch or satanist or anything else. Attitude has a lot to do with it; be broody, pouty, "gothy" (which is just borrowed from the Beatniks!), and you reap what you sow! Heck! I've never made a secret of my studies, and I've never been pointed out as "not like everyone else". They just figured that I was "doing my own thing" (a popular Sixties phrase). She does a lot of this to herself, if this film is true to the real story. When you are accused, you don't take responsibility for disasters and misfortunes! A popular expression is appropriate here: DUH! Add to that, she has an idiot friend making his own claims!

"Don't let any houses fall on you!"~My "The Wizard of Oz" Theory strikes again! Whoopee! A day without a reference to the '39 classic~well~doesn't happen! It's so engrained in our minds that allusions are inevitable!
