Eddie/Gwen's father

Where was he in all of this? In the movie,Gwen's mom moved back to her hometown because he was abusive, and that was that. What happened in rl?

I don't know but it's prolly best he was gone, the last thing Gwen needed was another damn MAN in her life making things harder.

Not meaning to judge all men, but 98% of them are intolerant pricks when it comes to gender issues, though Gwen did surprisingly have a good grandpa it seemed.

You preach tolerance but hate almost all men without knowing them...
Your tolerance only extends to minorities?

I just "preach" what I observe and see everyday.

I know how I've been treated by most men ~even before I have the hatred~ I know how important it is for most fathers' male children to be ALPHA MALES. And if they even suspect their male children isn't as MANLY as he should be, it's the most horrible thing in the world and action MUST be taken!

I know there are some good tolerant men out there but they are far and few between.

its just the way males are raised in this culture.

I understand the traditional alpha male stereotypes do still exist out there, but I think the media plays it up a lot too. Sitcoms, movies, comedies, etc all push the alpha male stuff and all have that "funny" story arc where the little boy plays with a doll and the dad freaks out. However in real life, especially lately, I think this stereotype is slowing down all the time. Don't get me wrong, there are some scumbag men out there. But everyone deserves a chance and you aren't going to get anywhere hating everyone on sight.

TV shows like that were really bad in the 70s and earlier, b/c lots of times there would be a boy who was more feminine that his friends and he was humiliated and made a spectacle out of until he "came around" and started acting like a boy, and the moral is, "Boys, do NOT be feminine!"

Like one old movie I saw on TCM ~I usually like that station and the old movies, but this one made me sick!~ I forget what the name of it was but the entire plot was about a father ~and family~ trying to make a man out of his "sissy" son. I mean REALLY!! 2 and a half hours of ridiculing, fussing at, this boy for being SISSY, and trying to think of ways to make him more manly...like his BROTHERS, and other friends, "I know, lets enlist him in the military!", "Lets take him to a fan dancer show!" "Lets get him a girlfriend, the right girl will bring him around!" "first thing we gotta do is throw out all this artsy stuff!", And even the mother, "I love you son, but maybe you could get a shorter haircut, would really bring out your manliness" etc... I mean HOW can a movie get made with only that as a premise?

Anyway I remember at the end of the movie the boy finally did..."come around" as they call it and that was the moral of the movie, a male being fem is the worse thing ever.

But yeah I know there are as many women who hate on use just as bad. In general women tend to be very psychologically cruel toward trans women. Men just like to tease and occasionally assault us, women will say cruel things like, "So, let me know when you hear your babies heart beat for the first time!" Of course not all cis-females can have children, so that cruel remark COULD also be made to them as well. Of course if I ever adopt a child, I could listen to the heart beat and be like, "Ah, I'm hearing my baby's heart beat!" lol

But it Gwen's case, Sylvia left her husband for a reason, so even though I don't know for sure, I'd say b/c he was being a jerk about "Eddie being a little too fragile."

But I liked Sylvia's boyfriend, he seemed really accepting and a good man. I could tell he understood about trangenderism when he pointed out if Gwen were gay she'd be dancing with a girl, at the wedding.
