I thought it WAS set in the 1980's until....

until i saw a laptop later on in the movie.
they had it down from clothes to decor.
oh, and i heard someone say "tool" and i thought, hmm, they didn't say that back then.

all in all, i didn't much care for it, very juvenile, but love andy so i gave it a whirl.

So... the first 30 seconds didn't clue you in as to the decade?

I'm 46 and still love juvenile humor when it's done well.

It wasn't just the laptop! Very early on he says he checked infos on Evel Knievel on the internet. The girl has a mobile telephone. There are flatscreens in the house (but also tube tvs!). It didn't take place in the 80s. Nor did it take place in 2007. It takes place in a fictional timeframe, where laptops etc exist, but old landline phones and tube tvs are used parallell to modern technology. At the same time clothing and music is 80s only. I liked that a lot and think they pulled this off smoothly. Why do we have to strictly put movies in a real timeframe? Think about it, we don't do that with fantasy and sci-fi films either!

Uh huh. I only use landline telephones (most of them have a rotary dial, no less) and CRT displays, so I guess I'm living in a "fictional timeframe"? By the way, CRT TVs were still being made in 2007, i.e., you could still buy one brand new at e.g., Walmart, and landline phones were far more common in 2007 than they are today or were 7 years ago.

Fictional time frames aren't possible if you're using real-world products in the movie, like unmodified production cars.
