Opinions Please - Do you think this is an appropriate movie for a 2 year old?

My daughter and I have summer movie passes and this is the movie being shown next week. Do you think it would be too scary for an (almost) 2-year-old? Judging from the Kids In Mind site, I'm thinking yes, but I'd like opinions from parents (or others) who have seen it. (I love the Kids In Mind site, but sometimes it blows little details out of proportion, imo and it can be hard to get a clear picture of the movie.) We saw The Lorax last week and she enjoyed it (totally different kind of movie I know). She loves Disney cartoons, but we usually fast forward through villainous scenes.

Thank you in advance!

So... I don't think this will be appropiate if she's really that sensitive. There's a villain in it, and he's quite scary. I don't think anyone that young can view this movie. I was in a theater packed with children and the litte kids were crying!

Thanks for your feedback. I think we're going to skip this one. :)

Hi there! I actually just started watching this with my six and three year old nieces on netflixs. I was personally looking forward to seeing Boxtrolls. I would say that we only got about 20 mins into the film before my six year old niece said she was scared and wanted to turn it off. My mom said that they had watched it before but I know from personally experience that they most likely were not paying attention as the three year old never watches a movie all the way through. I would say the scariest part is probably how the bad characters look. They look much more abnormal than I was expecting and the colors are darker and more muted from the 20 mins I watched, even I felt slightly uncomfortable with the way the bad guy looked especially knowing it probably looked worse for my niece. I would say this would probably be better for 10 year olds and up. As I said I didn't watch the whole movie and might go back and watch it by myself but I would say a 2 year old might find this scary. Some people on the board are saying the movie deals with a Holocaust like situation as the Boxtrolls are being captured and supposedly exterminated ( I think it is revealed that they are a live) without any real knowledge of how kind they really are. Sorry for the long winded post I was just trying to give you enough information to pass your own judgement.

Interesting. I definitely don't think she'd pick up on the holocaust metaphor, but it still sounds a little scary and intense for her. I think we'll skip it. Thank you so much for your feedback!

Yea for a kid that young I'd definitely pass. It was a good movie overall, just watched it recently on Netflix. But it would probably be pretty scary and intense for a young kid. The villain is pretty scary looking and frightening, and the plot itself gets pretty dark and intense. (As others said it's got a bit of a Holocaust type feel to it. Likely wouldn't make a connection in a kid but that type of material would be a bit dark for a young child.) IT would be fine for older children if they can handle those kind of movies, but 2 is too young for it.

I agree with the user that said this was for ten year olds and up. As long as they don't get traumatized, it should be fine.
