When Montegna first appeared in the film I was suprised he took this part but as the movie continued I realized what a fine actor he is with a range I had not seen in his other work! He was acting was oscar worthy.

sharejust saw this movie last night and Mantegna knocked it out of the park... surprisingly good film I somehow missed from 2007. Glad I finally caught up with it as it is a very moving character study featuring a great cast and a touching story.
shareGenerally, if Joe Mantegna is in it, I'll watch it. He generally doesn't do crap movies, and he is a remarkably fine actor, always a pleasure to watch.
If you haven't seen him in "House of Games," you are in for a real treat. It's seldom shown, but is something that should be far better known.
It also has a minor role for Ricky Jay, probably the finest card manipulater on the planet. If you ever have a chance to see him with a deck of cards, don't miss it. But don't ever play for money with him.
Montegna was great.
