Tony Jaa should learn English!!

Tony jaa better learn english asap. And make more movies..we waited almost 2 years for this movie. Come on tony you are young you gotta make more movies. Good luck!

reply

I agree he should make more movies. Buy why should he learn English?

I used to watch dubbed versions of films all the time, and although I ocasionally still do, I prefer to here the actors in their original languages and not some cheesy voice overs.

But Tony Jaa is from Thiland and this is a thialand film, so it should be in Thiland. It's like the new harry potter coming out worldwide in French but being a British produced films.

I would like a little more acting/better stories, haven't seen Ong Bak 2 yet, but I've read it's a bit like Ong Bak, with more fights than story. I'm not complaining as I like fights to, but I mean Jackie Chan's old original language films, had both good fights and a good story. I just hope Tony doesn't go Hollywood or break his no CGI, no stunt doubles etc policy.

reply

I agree with Peter. Jet Li made the mistake of doing films in the US, which ended up far inferior to his early work. Unless you are wanting him to learn English just so you don't have to read subs. Yeah, write to him and tell him to learn another language because you can't be bothered reading.

reply

Jet li didnt make a mistake going to hollywood. Jet li is my favourite actor and fighter. I love his hollywood movies more than the other ones. The other ones are great too. But imagine if he never came to hollywood i bet there would be millions of people who wouldnt know who he is. So for tony jaa thats why the reason i said he gotta learn it or else he will be stuck doing movies once in 2 or 3 years in thailand. So he better come to hollywood and make more movies. He can also make movies in his country too. He is well known in his country but what about around the world I dont think so. So to get known internationally you gotta work hard, I mean he has money get some special teacher and learn it, and make more movies for gods sake. But come on we waited for almost 3 years, thats not good not at all.

reply

I'd much rather have a few high quality Tony Jaa movies, instead of a huge collection of mediocre ones.

reply

looks like you got the best of both worlds... a few mediocre/terrible Tony Jaa movies :/

reply

Once Upon a Time in China 1, 2, 3, and 6
Fist Of Legend
Hero
Fearless

Vs.

Romeo must die (sucked)
Cradle to the grave(Sucked)
Lethal Weapon 4 (Pretty Good)
The One (Sucked)
Kiss of the Dragon (sucked)
Forbidden Kingdom (Awesome
The Mummy 3 (Worst one)

I wouldn't say it was a mistake coming to Hollywood, but of his American Movies the only ones that I thought are good, were LW4 and Forbidden Kingdom. I haven't seen too many of his Chinese films, but Fearless, Fist of Legend and Once upon a time in china are much better than any of his American films.

And for me films are better in their original language with subtitles. But some say that it takes them out of the action and that they can't focus on the movie. IDK. I watch a ton of movies and got used to it. I'm sure that fans of Tony Jaa worldwide think "I wish he'd learn (insert language here)", but that's asking a lot.

thats your "IMOH"? there kingfan? go play on some wires and stfu, thats my humble opinion, although I hear Stephen himself is even embarrassed by you

"I'm going to be eaten by zombie woodsmen. That's not how a philosopher should die"

reply

Really? I stated several times that it was my opinion. I am allowed to state my opinion. IMOH? Means nothing.

reply

After I checked your other posts, its obvious all you do is try to start stuff. Stop trash talking on the internet and grow up.

reply

Well summed up Kingfan, Zebrabungle is a bit of an idiot round here.
The good news is that everyone else round here can see that too, so he's all on his own really...

Dude I agree with everything you said there, but Kiss of the Dragon did NOT suck. It ROCKED.

My Top 5 Movies:
Aliens
Terminator 2
The Shawshank Redemption
The Iron Giant
The Matrix

reply

The problem is that most American audiences don't wanna see Jet Li's good movies. They want to see movies like kiss of the dragon and cradle to the grave, which I think were fairly standard action films. Not good not horrible, just very very standard. I saw Hero in theaters the opening day and the theater was soo empty, despite the fact that it his one of Jet Li's greatest movies.

Either way trying to become international is always a good move. Even if they are lower quality movies, that gives them a lot of exposure and green moneys and most importantly star power, so they can focus on movies they really want to make without worrying about things like budget

reply

Your a *beep* Karateguy, why don't you go kill yourself? Hollywood makes *beep* martial art movies!

reply

No Tony Jaa should learn Dutch so I don't have to read subs.

C wut I did their?

We waited three years, not two, for Ong bak 2. Three and a half, almost, Tom Yum Goong came out Summer 2005, this film came out end of 2008. Been waiting so long...

reply

From what I know (I am Thai so I watch his interview and/or news scoop), I don't think they are waiting. With all the expectations toward them, they needs to ensure that the new movies (in action aspect at least) are better than before. Time were spend on research, design and training (ensuring that it will be stunning and not to be too dangerous).

Of course, we do not have many experienced human resources that can make it faster like those in HK. With decades of international-accepted action-movie making, they have so many people, tools and organization ready to make them quickly. Long Chinese history also helps providing base plots (how many HK movies got their plots from the history, like once upon the time in China, Fearless, Ip Man, to name a few).

In some VDOs, Jaa kicked another stun man with protection again and again until they are sure that he can do it in the realistic way without hurting the stun man too much. Then he do it without the protection again and again until it closes to perfect. Imagine how many of those scenes are in their movies.

This is what I think they are thinking. Thailand is not HK (yet, at least). We do not a enough credibility (created from a long list of good movies in the past). So one bad movie (in the action point of view) will ruin the reputation and that affects the sale (pre-order). In order words, they have to keep making difficult stuns and that takes time - a lot of time.

I do want to see more movies from him - it is a trade off.

Just my thought.

nawaman-1! well said!

Why don't you learn Thai? And as for Jet Li's Hollywood movies, they are terrible compared to the art of an original Chinese movie. I pray that Tony NEVER does a Hollycrap movie. Blessings

reply

I agree 100% hollywood doesn't know anything about making these kinds of movies. They are toned down and choppy (no pun intended). Tell me a Jackie chan movie or Jet Li movie that was make in America and I'll easily tell you why it sucked.

Kiss of the Dragon was written by Jet Li, directed by a french director and made in france.

Rumble in the Bronx was made in Vancouver canada.

Jet Li only came up with the story, Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen wrote the screenplay to Kiss of the Dragon.

reply

I hope he stays the hell away from english. Seriously.

reply

a LOYAL fan base will follow regardless the language he speaks. Hollywood or not I will seek out and find his flms. Watch them if I can here in the states, if I can't, I will be buy them when they are on DVD. I was a Jackie Chan fan long before Rumble in the Bronx came out here in the US. He dosen't need English I can read the Subtitles just fine, and if I am feeling too lazy too read I can just push a button on my DVD player and "Blam" english. I think it would be nice if he did it so if he ever runs into an English Speaking fan he can atleast say hello to him, and that he admires his work, and Tony be able to understand them. But it wont compromise the following of his films nor the qualty of the pictures.

reply

[deleted]

You don't get it... He doesn't give a *beep* about learning English. He is Thai. He is proud to represent Thai culture and that is his main focus. Period.

Most, if not all, of Jackie Chan's "English speaking" films suck... The same is true for Jet Li.

So... We should all hope that he keeps speaking Thai and perfecting what he does best...

Repping Thailand!

"Do you realize that it's snowing in my room, godammit?!"

reply

So you have a point with Kiss of the Dragon (although it's nowhere near the quality of Once Upon a Time in China or Fist of Legend)

But......... what makes you think Rumble in the Bronx was one of Jackie Chan's American films?

What's a signature?

reply

Quality of once upon a time in china? are you kidding me..that was probably the worst movie of him that I watched. Kiss of the dragon is much much better than that movie,,not even comparable. The best movies that he made in asian culture was fearless and hero. You guys are probably asian..so that's why...You need to think internationally. Plus everyone has a different taste. My point is he should go out make more movies doesnt matter if it is in hollywood, europe or australia. If he stays in thailand you know whats gonna happen..

reply

LOL.. think internationally?? geez, what planet are you from? Don't like the way they do the movies? don't you have a life to live?

I rather would wait 2 years and welcome a quality film than any crap produced in the rush!! Do you want to see Tony Jaa five times per year?? wtf is that! Go watch BOLLYWOOD... they are masters in such crap, they even produce 15 movies per year! YEY

Learn to read subs and show some interest (or maybe respect) for other languages which are much older than english!!

BTW: I'm not an Asian guy but German (born in Siberia and lived long in Kazakhstan) and I love Asian movies much better than most of US! But hey maybe you are right, sometime I feel like I'm more an Asian guy than German. I guess I should be proud of that!

reply

[deleted]

"You need to think internationally"? How about thinking straight? I have never read posts as stupid as yours. As good as Kiss of the Dragon is, its not better than Once Upon A Time in China.

And so what if Jaa stays in Thailand? What's "gonna happen"? Donnie Yen's 'stayed' making movies in Hong Kong most of his life and that hasn't done him any harm. Same for Samo Hung.

Going to Hollywood seems to ruin these actors' CVs. Sure, there are one or two good films but Hollywood doesn't seem to know what to do with martial arts actors. Look at the final fight in Cradle 2 the Grave - what a waste! Same goes for The Forbidden Kingdom. You have Jackie Chan, Jet Li and Colin Chou and except's for Chan and Li's fight, they were all pretty much wasted. Its really annoying as they ruin making these guys' fights looks great but are all ready to make the cast of The Matrix or Kill Bill look good...

reply

Yeah keep waiting for his next movie, may be in 5 years...

reply

Learn English? Are you nuts or you just lost them. He should stay as far away as possible from English in fact he shouldn't even be able to touch it with a barge pole! Once Hollywood get their claws on things, they usually turn to manure (not gold). Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Yun Fat Chow to name the few who've migrated to Hollywood and started churning crap like The Medallion, Bulletproof Monk, The One. Ironically Jackie Chan still does movies in his homeland that are still pretty good.

I would prefer Tony do the movies he's doing now and Hollywood studios buy distribution rights that way we won't have formulaic plots. Plus Hollywood never treats foreign actors right, 99.9% of the time they get roles based on their ethnicity. So Antonio Banderas is either the Mexican, the Latino or the Arab in all his movies. Jet Li, well he's the Asian martial arts expert. LoL I'm spewing crap sorry! got carried away :)

reply

They could have gotten anyone to be in War.

reply

At least I get what you are saying karate guy. I don't really agree with the LEARN ENGLISH, sounds a bit ethnocentric, but it would open doors to make more movies, crappy or not, he would still be KICKING ASS!

reply

He has been learning English over the past few years. He said so in an interview and he wanted to go Hollywood years ago but he is tied to a contract for a certain amount of movies with his Thai prod. company before he can commit to any U.S. productions. I think its good though. By the time he goes Hollywood he'll be more experienced cause he will have done a few more flicks and he now has more time to work on his English. That interview was about 3 years ago though, so i guess his English should be ok by now.

If he keeps making such movies and stunts i don't give a Fing damn about his english. :-P The first movie was EPIC! I totally loved it! =)

"Jet li didnt make a mistake going to hollywood. Jet li is my favourite actor and fighter. I love his hollywood movies more than the other ones."

Yeah, Romeo is dying, Leathal weapon 4, The mummy 3, Cradle to the grave, The one,...

Those American movies are so much better than crap like Fist of legend, Hero, Fearless, Warlords, Once upon a time in China 1-2-3, Fong Sai Yuk, Martial arts of Shaolin...

ARE YOU BLIND? CAN'T YOU SEE THE FRACKIN' DIFFERENCE?????????????

Yeah, great idea, Tony! Learn English, they'll find great movies for you in Hollywood: how about a cop from Asia coming in the US to...seek revenge...you know, and he meets a rapper-turned-bad-actor, and then bad fight scenes (badly filmed, of course) with some crappy R n' B to sell OSTs?

"The other ones are great too. But imagine if he never came to hollywood i bet there would be millions of people who wouldnt know who he is."

So what????? All you should care is the quality of their movies, not the fact that almost everybody knows him!!!!!!

The truth is the truth hurts
Don't you agree?

reply

The main reason why American films starring Jet Li and Jackie Chan are so bad, well most, are because the style of filmmaking is different. The Medallion is hands down the worst Jackie Chan flick I've ever seen. Granted, I still haven't seen Killer Meteors or Fantasy Mission Force. For some reason with Jet Li, I cannot stand Kiss of the Dragon. It just annoys the hell out of me.

Damien Frost and The 2012 Effect, coming in 2010.

reply

Yes Fantasy Mission Force was worse than The Medallion.
I dint even remember Jackie being te sole star in that movie either. It was so bad.

And yes Tony Jaa s learning Englisg and Steven Spielberg happens to be one of his favorite directors. His dream would be to be in one of his movies.

Actually he would make a great Short Round in an Indiana Jones movie (Even though the last one sucked)

And btw that kid that played the young him in Ong Bak 2 looked just like him. crazy

reply

Hmmm... I keep hearing how "The One" Sucked by all you POWDER PUFFS. Tell me, when was the last time a movie YOU were IN or MADE grossed 43,905,746 at the box office and was nominated 4 times?

And yes America kills all actors from other countries. It has NOTHING to do with THEM coming over here being GREEDY and just making AND POS movie HANDED to them. They have a right to say NO and are not FORCED to do ANYTHING. So if you don't like any of their "American" movies go TROLL and FLAME THEIR pages!

But I do agree w/ the TROLL above. Movies w/ rappers should NEVER be made.
