Am I the only person who likes this movie?

"You met me at a very strange time in my life"-The Narrator

reply

Nope me and my brother liked it and we're usually hard to please.

We weren't raised at the pole though.

reply

I liked it too. I can't believe it only gets a 5/10 on the IMDB meter as of this posting.

reply

I thought it was funny. I mean it wasn't brilliant or anything, but I laughed. I saw it on Cinemax though, so I didn't pay to see it at the theater, and I might have liked it less if I had.

reply

The only reason that people don't like this movie? Dumb and Dumber. If that movie had never been made, I think this would have done better. It's the same basic appeal factors, and I thought it was funny in a very stupid way, but after watching D&D for 10 years, people probably just got tired of it.

Both movies even incorporate dead birds...how often do you see that one?

reply

I wasn't expecting the Godfather so I thoroughly enjoyed it. Stupid humor is exactly what I wanted out of this movie.

reply

At first I didn't like it, but then it was on Starz over and over again and I really began to enjoy it.

Lets put a SMILE on that face!

reply

You are not alone. I thought it was a fine movie.

I think what is turning many people off is the fact that Will Arnet was purposely trying to make the audience feel uncomfortable. The characters were creepy, no doubt about that.

This was a movie about two social outcasts. If an audience member is tolerant of people who are different, they will like the movie. People who are afraid of people that are different from them will hate the movie.

I'll bet you could have done an exit poll and found a perfect correlation between liberals liking it and conservatives hating it (I hate bringing up politics on these boards, but in this case I think it is called for).

God you're a dickhead.

I must have struck a nerve perfectly.

"I must have struck a nerve perfectly."

well, thats because a smug troll like you likes to strike nerves...

reply

Troll? no.

Smug? Absolutely. Read the thread. I postulated that intolerant people would be upset and then exactly on cue an intolerant person calls me a dickhead. I couldn't have orchestrated a better proof of my point.

Overall I think the movie could be better, but there are so many funny parts in it that its shortcomings are forgivable. Either that or I'm just reminiscing about the time I felt myself inside a cold dixie cup.

reply

I absolutely loved it and think some of the jokes were pretty brilliant. I read on wikipedia that this film had a $10 million budget and it only grossed $900k. Ouch.

Humour is an incredibly subjective thing, and in the case of Will Forte you have one of the more eccentric voices from SNL, so it was always a bit of an uphill struggle with him as the lead.
However, I found it hilarious because it's the kind of offthewall humour that makes me laugh. It may be a bit uneven pacing wise, the story is pretty much nonsense, but if you let go of those hangups then you'll have a great time.

I loved this movie. I've seen it so many times and it still makes me laugh. The dead bird and diapers, the "God's special little clown", and how Bill Hader was just riding around on that bike. hahaha so great!
