Symbolism in this movie

I just bought the DVD and I'm completely heartbroken after watching the movie. I agree that the main character is self-absorbed, but her love for some people and her struggles are very touching. What I cannot get is the symbolism implied in comparing her and her husband's mistress. Her name is Angel, her husband's misterss name is Angelic. Angelic was brought up in Paradise, the house Angel dreamt about and was later able to buy. Angelic had her husband's love, his visits on his leaves from war, and his baby. This woman just seemed to naturally own everything Angel was striving and working hard to get. And seemingly, she didn't care for it. Why?

I, too, was confused by Angelica's name and by what the message was supposed to be about the two women. Perhaps Angelica represented reality and Angel represented fantasy/wishful thinking. Angelica was after all very pragmatic and seemingly passionless from what we were shown of her.

Wow, I think you are right, thank you for this. But that makes the movie's message really sad - just stick to your f-cking reality and never dream of better things in life (above your current position), cause you're not getting them, you're not entitled. Sad, but probably true...
