People don't get it. It's just PARODY

This is parody, done in the style of many of the Hollywood blockbusters I'm sure you adore, from the 30s, 40s, 50s. This is kitsh, tacky, overacted and all the nasty things you say of it, because that's the way it's suposed to be.
This film is the life of a romance novel writer in the early XX, a character with as many birds in her head as you can stuff in there, a selfish, cruel, childish woman who had a bright imagination which she poured in her books, and was very successful in a morbid way. Pure celebrity, just like what we see today, but with more bling.
There's nothing to argue about. This is not supposed to be serious, thoughtful stuff. Just get over it and enjoy it, if you want to, or don't watch it. Simple.

I watched it last night and agree completely. If you think this is serious, you'll think this is an awful film. I was actually kind of entertained by the cheesiness of it.

Thank you! At last, someone who gets it. I sat and watched it with my mum this afternoon and it reminded me of watching black and white or technicolour dramas from the 40s and 50s on a Sunday afternoon, when I was a child. Angel pays homage to that and I think it's wonderful.

I agree.

They took an over-the-top romance heroine and shoved her into a story with real life consequences. It was incredibly bizarre at times. But I enjoyed it.

I didn't quite believe in the parody theory, just thought it was an awful film that I couldn't tear myself away from, until the appearance of the rainbow during the proposal scene! Haha, good one!

A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.

Hmm most of the time people watch films and then form an opinion on it. Sorry if that offends you so much that you have to have a hissy fit. They can't really pass judgement until they've watched it and so you "don't watch it unless you can enjoy it" attitude makes no sense.

This is a message board for discussion after all.

Anyways it's clear this film is a parody of a bygone era of film which is shown by the blue screen background shots. However just because it's a parody doesn't mean it's good.
