was the white on white subtitles merely a bad decision or did I just miss the point?

Yes it was a terrible oversight and very frustrating.

this movie sucked so bad. it would have been alot better if it was about an hour shorter

I'm not sure why the subtitles would matter, there wasn't any dialog at all!
