Skinny jeans in 1980?

Danny regularly wore these in the film. Anachronistic.

We wore very tight pants in the 80's. Not anachronistic at all. Just go watch some music videos from the era. The movie is not set in 1980, it's set in "the '80s". I don't think the ever specified an exact year, did they?

Actually, the film is primarily set in the 1970s, although the RAGING BULL poster in Charlie and Danny's dorm room indicates that 1980 had arrived. I'm old enough to have come of age in the 80s, and pants were definitely more snug than they would become during the baggy phase of the late 80s-early 90s, when sagging began. However, jeans as tight as those Danny wore were primarily seen on rock stars and and, ironically, gay men. It's unlikely Danny would have had them.

I always thought it was probably '83 or '84. I certainly had tight pants back then and I do remember kids who were into MTV emulating the styles they saw on there. Which were mostly all skin tight in those days.

Specifically, what did you think was '83 or '84? Certainly, males wore more form-fitting jeans in those days, but the skinny or "slim-fit" variety didn't really exist before the current millenium. I think it was a reaction to the baggy, low-slung look, which some kids disdained. Of course, some skinny jeans wearers do also sag their pants. If you have a nice round butt, it's hard not to. Personally, I don't know how these guys wear - or pull on - skinny jeans over boxers. It's got to be uncomfortable. I think the skinny look originated amongst skaters, and most likely Mexican-Americans. The style is very popular within that demographic. By the way, are you male or female?
