So-so at best

I watched this this morning at the Toronto Film Festival. Except for two guys who laughed too hard (and WAY too loud) at every pratfall, the audience was mildly amused at best. Overly long, repetitive, boring.

Apparently the director was aiming at Keystone Kops-like frolic. That's fine, but 20 or 30 minutes would have been fine. Instead it was full length and frankly boring. The best silent films can sustain length, but by best I mean Buster Keaton or Charlie Chaplain.

One caveat to the negativity: The dog was GREAT.

Dr Plonk held my attention and had me entertained from start to finish. Very amusing and a very novel treat indeed. I've got many vintage silent films in my collection and Dr Plonk paid homage perfectly. I dont think it was over long at all.
