Whose ridiculous idea was it to put Molly Qerim on Mike and Mike?

I've been watching Mike and Mike since 2004. I'm not wild about the new set, the new graphics, and I'm certainly not happy about adding the insipid, shrill Qerim to the show's team. Does this woman sleep with all the ESPN execs? She sucks on First Take, and she's already annoying the hell out of me on her first day with Greeny and Golic. Do I really need to have her perky boobs in my face the whole time? Ugh! Now I know I can't stand her; she thinks Beyonce (pole-dancer) Knowles and Jay-Z are creative geniuses? This woman's alleged brain must live in her girls.

I'm not surprised to see Molly on MandM considering how ESPN has risen in popularity and can do whatever they want. MandM do predictable broadcasts and are very vanilla. I'll listen until another network creates something better and that won't be anytime soon. I'm sad ...

Just saw Molly do a political monologue about the greatness of the Beyoncé Halftime Show.

Molly sounded totally clueless. Just showed herself to be a hero-worshiping airhead.

ESPN is having ratings trouble and the recent changes must be desperate attempts to recover viewers, but bringing in this Molly Qerim is going to hurt the show, not help it.

Thanks for restoring my sanity. I also found Molly's comments about Beyoncé absurd. Most of Qerim's comments consist of cheering for the Giants and her other teams. I already found her presence on First Take irritating.

It took me about a year to accept Cari Champion, who at least had some insights. After Champion was promoted to Sports Center, they shoved the rather vacuous Qerim in there. I don't watch First Take all the time, but I usually watch Mike and Mike most mornings (especially during football season). They often have some interesting discussions, but the show hasn't been quite as good since Liam Chapman and Joaquin (not sure of his full name) left.

I didn't realize ESPN was having ratings issues. I'd be curious to know whether they do better during football season. I like their baseball coverage, too, but until the Phillies improve enough to be watchable, I'm not wasting my time on baseball.

Overall, ESPN ratings were down about 10% in 2015.

Just do a search on "ESPN ratings down" and you can find the actual numbers.

Jim,

I think you might be confusing ESPN's subscriptions being down, not their ratings.

(please correct me if I'm wrong)

This has to do with media outlets like Mediacom/Comcast & Direct TV not being able to pass along high cost sports packages because consumers are getting their TV entertainment other ways (on demand, Netflix etc).

ESPN is still the juggernaut.

My source is the December 19, 2015, article by Sean Keeley on awfulanouncing.com.

Keeley says that:

1 - ESPN ratings declined overall by 10% in 2015.
2- ESPN ratings for their NFL game telecasts declined by 3% in 2015.
3 - ESPN ratings for their NFL pre-game show declined by 13% in 2015.
4 - While Fox Sports 1 and NBCSN do not have nearly the ratings of ESPN, both were trending upward in 2015.

OK, thanks!

I guess that ESPN ratings dropping by 10% actually coincides with Disney's reports of decline in ESPN's inclusions in packages by the providers I mentioned.

Pre-Game show ratings are more or less irrelevant but the NFL gamecasts being down by 3% makes me nervous for them.

Thanks for clarifying the numbers. TV is changing now that there are so many alternatives to traditional viewing methods. Sorry it took me so long to reply.

Months later, the show has hired more air-headed T&A types. The only extra person I could stand was Will Reeve, who actually knows about sports. All the others are interchangable women with nearly identical hairstyles. They drag down the discourse by rattling on about J Lo and their "spirit animals." Where are the legitimate women sportscasters?

I still miss CC, but I enjoy Louis Riddick and Booger McFarland.

I like Riddick as well but McFarland doesn't add much for my own tastes.

McFarland can blow hot and cold, depending upon the topic.
