Brittany Murphy is a ((TOWERING)) talent! Wow. Just wow.

That role could so easily have been hackneyed, but this young woman invested it with so much of her humanity I defy anyone — even those of us who are older and not a little cynical about what passes for acting chops these days, the days of cookie cutter actors — I say it again, I defy anyone to ever forget this young woman's performance.

How good was it? This performance was right up there with DeNiro's terrifying descent into madness in TAXI DRIVER as he's standing before the mirror and arguing with his imaginary demons. Oh yes. That good.

We are witness to genuine, authentic talent in this young woman, at a time when precious little of it is given a chance to bloom in these days of inherited careers based upon Dynasty.

We had another one lately, as well: Heath Ledger.

So there is hope. I picked this up off of my library shelf and watched it with a friend and both of us were just floored by this performance. I mean to take nothing away from the other actors, but this was talent of a completely unexpected depth. Highly recommend.

How ironic. Sad, but ironic. :-|

I bought the DVD of "The Dead Girl" a couple years ago because I knew I'd want to watch this film many times. Tonight will be one of those times.

RIP Brittany Murphy.

reply

Agreed. RIP woman.

You are braver than me my friend; that last scene is sad enough.

reply

I agree, I haven't seen this in awhile but Brittany's performance was what I remember most about this movie.

The original post was on September 27th? Reads like a premonition. I wish someone could have helped her. She was extremely talented and it's very sad how things ended for her.

RIP

So agreed. About everything said. Like I've said before in these posts tonight, yes, STUNNING performance. I pretty much forgot about her after I saw THE DEAD GIRL, but I remember being VERY impressed, and so when I heard this sad news, I immediately placed her face and performance with this movie and felt sad.
Very sad, such a shame.

RIP BM

It is strange how so many young talents in the entertainment industry are taken away during the prime of their careers. Brittany Murphy was no exception. She was by far one of the most talented actresses to grace the silver screen. Her performance in this movie is crystal clear proof.

Agreed.
It's a shame the world had to lose her so soon.

Two great talents, both now lost. RIP Brittany and Heath.

The final scene in this movie is now very different to watch than it was a few years ago.

Dead? I'm speechless. Jesus.

This thread deserves a bump. Brittany Murphy was fantastic in this film. Everything about her performance was real. She was captivating from the second she appeared.

After a slow and shaky start to the film it got better. I didn't care much for the Toni Collette part. But really enjoyed Rose Byrne and Marcia Gay Hardens vignette. But none of them could match what Murphy did in her role.

Such a shame that she's gone.
