I love you Brittany Murphy!

This underrated movie is fan-friggin-tastic! It seriously blew my mind the first time I saw it. So sorry to hear of Brittany's passing. She was a serious talent. : (

Yes, I saw this movie. And I was very impressed with her acting. When I saw it, I had never heard of her, I remember being very impressed with her, and I made sure that I checked out who the actress was in the credits. I remembered her when I heard the news..
So sad.

Brittany turned in a wonderful performance here in a challenging role. She really brought her character to life convincingly and authentically, without overdoing it. She was an fine actress of great natural talent and a range that had just begun to be explored. There's no comfort in her premature death, but her work will live on and speak for her. A sad goodbye.

I rented the dvd after Murphy's death, as it had already been on my list of movies to watch. I was uneasy in realizing that Brittany was "the dead girl" and I wondered how closely art and life were connected. I'd liked Murphy awhile, but hadn't followed her closely or recently.

So, when I saw how way-messed-up and doomed her charcater was here, I wondered some more. Then, I watched the interviews in the special features, and listening to the bright, compassionate, intellignt, healthy and happy-looking Brittany talk about the role with such insight, I realized all over again what a terrific talent - "a serious talent" as canadian_film_buff put it - that she was. The best artists come from empathy, not self-indugence, and she had that in spades.

I realize she may have been, for all I know, more troubled than she seemed in that interview - the acting-talent sword can cut both ways. But assuming too much on the basis of some of her roles I realized does her and her gift a disservice. She could have played any kind of part.

Well said Sylviamoon. I couldn't have put it any better myself.

To the people who say Brittany Murphy was not a great actress. WATCH THIS MOVIE!

She had the most important role in the film and did an incredible job with it.

And the supporting cast was ...a lot of veteran actors and others that also were excellent.

Josh Brolin was great here and also in "No Country" a few years back. Great final scene in this film.

was Brittany a main character?

She was so good. My heart broke for the character. She was tough and messed up but there was a sweetness to her. A sadness with a little hope. A great complex character and in only a short amount of time.

I loved her as well. A talented girl gone way too soon. Really spot-on in this film.
