please help!

I live in the united states, and have been wanting to see this movie for some time.
i called movie stores, book stores, electronic stores, you name it.

then i went onto a fansite of Damian Lewis' and it says that its not available on DVD in the united states.

Am i out of luck or do i have another option? would i be able to buy the movie from the amazon UK site?

reply

If you live in the US then you live in region 1 and a region 2 DVD like The Baker from the UK will not play on your DVD player unless you specifically purchase a region-free (multi-region) DVD player; or you hack your current player to make it region-free. You can also purchase special software to allow you to watch DVDs from many regions on your PC DVD player. There is more information about regions and DVD players and options at the link below:

I live in the US and I bought the Region 2 DVD of The Baker from Europe and I loved the film - but I have a region-free DVD player. I got it a few years ago and it wasn't expensive and it was the best purchase I ever made!

I don't suppose you live in the Winston-Salem, NC area? Because The Baker is going to screen there at the RiverRun Film Festival in April.

Sorry, I wish it were different - I hope the film is released in the US soon.

I ordered my region-free DVD player from the company at the link below and I have been very pleased with it - they offer many different brands, price ranges and options. I have also seen them for sale on Amazon.com and other places. Good luck!

Saw this movie today at the River Run Festival in Winston-Salem NC. Gareth Lewis was answering questions after the showing and said that negotiations were underway for a US release. He didn't give any further info...but if you have the chance to see this movie, do it.

More details, please! Tell us about the film and the screening and Gareth Lewis's comments and what did you like about the movie?!

reply

Well, if you've not seen the film, Lewis' comments won't make a whole lot of sense (other than the aforementioned negotiations to release the film in the US). The food-flying scene in the kitchen, for instance, surprisingly was NOT the most challenging to film.

As far as the movie goes, I liked it a lot. Walks a fine line in that it's a 'feel-good comedy' whose protagonist kills people for a living (though not on screen). Personally, I didn't have much of a problem with that, but others apparently did. Lewis did mention that the original screenplay was bloodier than the movie turned out to be and it was lightened-up for that very reason.

In other news, a short (20 min) film called I am Bob screened immediately prior to The Baker. It was hilarious...I haven't any notion how one would go about seeing it other than just lucking up, but if you have a chance to see it, I recommend you take advantage of it. 20 minutes well spent.

I have seen the film (on DVD, not on the big screen) and I am glad to hear that he decided to make the film more light-hearted and less violent. As far as the food-flying scene - I want to know how he made the cookie cutters dance in time to the music and then fall over on cue!

reply

To be honest I was caught by surprise how good this film was! There was one thing I didn't quite get it, however, *spoiler ahead* what's the deal with the explosions that killed those sheeps?

I think that was just to show that Eggs was so bored with village life that he was prepared to do anything to flee from that mundane reality.

He was way to eager to become a hitman though, so I'd also say it's to show that he's got a sociopathic streak a mile wide.

Eggs might have a sheepopathic streak
