Vanessa Redgrave

Normally I would get irritated if someone is nominated for an Oscar for a performance that is less than 10 minutes, but I think IF Vanessa Redgrave had been nominated for this film, I could never have complained. She's in the film for less than 10 minutes and just sold the ending of the film. Grim reality mixed with tremendous regret. A truly incredible performance.

She was utterly mesmerising. An amazing performance.

I agree. Surprised how she was good.

Couldn’t agree more. Her performance made a lasting impression. Just stellar.

I don't see why a very short performance being nominated for an Oscar should irritate anyone. It is far more justifiable and less frustrating than the studios' trick of promoting lead roles into the supporting categories to secure an easy nomination or win (Brad Pitt being this year's most glaring example).

Redgrave was excellent in her brief role in Atonement - although for me Romola Garai was the most impressive of the three Brionys, and the one who should have been nominated.

An example of an even tinier performance which deserved a nomination is Vanessa's sister Lynn, who is mesmerising with single monologue at the end of Kinsey (2004) and thoroughly deserved a nomination.
