so Brioni is a mega b*tch basically

Even when she's old, she was acting like finally she could give them their happiness just by releasing the actual story. Dafuq!? The ending is so depressing!

reply

Yep, totally agree. She was a real piece of work.

reply

This is called rationalization to the extreme. Maybe it kept her from going crazy. I'm afraid if we ever REALLY faced up to the evil we've done or caused, most of us would be insane as well.

That may be true, which will be even scarier.
Have you watches The Hunt/Jagten? It's a Danish movie, played by Mads Mikkelsen. It has similar story and it's awful to even think how if the case happens in real world.

reply

The truth is these type of cases happen almost commonly. Why do you think Male teaching percentages in early childhood education have plummeted?

Why are men been systematically demonised and villainized in the media as two dimensional violent abuser's who ought not to be trusted with children?

If you look closely, there has been a war waged against the presumption of decency and honour amongst men as a whole in the court of public opinion.

Airline policy dictates that young children are not to be seated next to male strangers.

Everybody is well aware of 'misogyny' and applauds any woman who blithely slanders or derides a man, while men must tiptoe ever so carefully verbally, lest they be denounced as a woman hater.

IMO, it is the new witch-hunt. Misandry is being cleverly interwoven into many narratives, especially as a simple explanation for domestic violence, in which tabloid journalism declares men the new menace.

Quite simply, men are perpetrators, women are innocent victims. many new hollywood films including 'the new mad max'portray this as an underlying theme along with countless others.

the problem with an reactive, angry ideology like victim feminism is it thrives and relies upon always having someone or something to demonise, to rally against, and the post-feminist narrative is doing a great job of reducing men to whimpering, frightened wretches who dare not step outside the proscribed parameter's.

Seriously, the consequences are grave. think about it. There is little hope that the cause of the future of men as respected entities will be taken up, as there are few who would put their neck on the guillotine of public opinion.

Most men will understand what I mean. No longer is man allowed to be a sexual beast unless approved and rubber stamped by a woman. The identity and behaviour is set forth by the round table of angry feminists who demand men act this way and that way.

Vengeance will never right the wrongs of the past. Burning us at the stake will only create an underclass of angry young men, who will cease to trust women nor wish to take a risk and become vulnerable. The world of porn and prostitution, abstinence, self loathing, conforming to the ruthless politically correct agenda or self destruction awaits.

Mark my words, they cry for more women in leadership roles, as CEO's, but will they not just become like the men they must model themselves on to succeed? ruthless, cutthroat women with an axe to grind in half of all the positions of power: not bringing their much needed femininity, but a twisted version of the cold hearted captain of industry man, who places little value on life, and much on profit.

The seeds are being sown for a future so bleak, one must avoid the gaze of the onrushing world before it chews him up and spits him out.

I strongly disagree, I think that she was a confused and fanciful little girl and then a young person too much of a "coward"; to use her own words, to visit her sister again. She felt a sorrow and emptiness that she could never truly absolve, at least in the movie her blaming Robbie for the crime was a jump to conclusions(her decision was based on the letter she interpreted as harrassment, rather than passion) or a childish spiteful. I did empathize with Briony, and found that her behavior was very realistic of a child--emotionally younger than 13.

She was not simply evil or 'a b*tch', that does not do the film justice--she was an immature child who did not understand love or desire.

^^ This ^^

I'll explain it succinctly, without necessary elaboration:

Briony was an emotionally sick child that needed professional help.

reply

She is a fictional character created with deep ambiguities and nuances by an extremely accomplished novelist, Ian McEwan.
McEwan has said of all the characters he's ever written, Briony remains the closest to himself. Why would he say that if all he was creating was just someone who needed professional help?

reply

Saoirse Ronan has developed into a wonderful actress and one of my favorites today but, I did not think much of her when I saw her for the first time in this movie because her annoying character. Saoirse is precocious as an actress, but the character Brioni is really childish even for a 13 year old. I guess that's how good she played the role. I got a bit off topic I think...

reply

Yeah, pretty much.

But on the other hand if Robbie and Cee had a better sense of decorum, and went into a room for their tryst (instead of banging against the bookcase in the library), an impressionable
13 year old girl would not have seen them, and been traumatized by the event. So there was
bad behavior all around.
