How do people cope with that bad word...

I'm not bothered by its use-in fact I think its a very useful swear word-so easy to shock people, and I use it way too much! But such is its power, I cant even type it out here. Anyway, the question-how do those people who HATE the word and on hearing it in life -panic, cover their ears and shut it out of their Universe----cope with its major presence,in this fine film??

I don't think there is an overall hatred of the word for people. It just has no appropriate usage in everyday language other than to shock, as you pointed out.

However, shocking people to the point of turning away from you can be done in any number of ways without having to resort to 'four letter words'.

I was just blocked on Twitter by a national news program and I never used any profanity, simply criss-crossed topics, is what I'd say, with concern about Syrian refugees in one tweet and Emmy fashions in another, I asked about the Syrian refugees favorites for the Emmys winning.

Not sure if that is what did it, but I can no longer see their postings, so there is any number of ways to shock someone without having to use supposedly shocking words.

Cope with a word??? Can't type it or refer to it?? People may panic???!!! REALLY????!!!

Stop being such a drama queen. It's only a word and whatever power that people deem it to have is given it by their own inability to let such things not impact their lives.

In England "cu*t" is commonly spoken much more freely than in the US and therefore a less "bad word" (what are we....in kindergarten??).

Cope with a word.....not a thing really.....cope with an illness, addiction, loss, etc.....that requires coping and has actual importance & effects on someone's life as opposed to a combination of letters formed into a slang word that you can choose not to say or ignore when heard (and no.....one does not have to go running off with their hands over their ears to do so....sheesh!)

There's really no need to be so mean on a board about a move in which the word is used; the word bothers some people. I thought the word was used in the novel and film effectively and you are obviously fine with it. And the reason it was effective is because it IS shocking, especially in context.
If terryperring is a drama queen you're a bit high and mighty.
I'm thinking she might actually be using her real name, which is refreshing. You, on the other hand, have an alias that reveals little more than your level of maturity. (That was mean, too. We should both try a little kindness next time.)

Or, you can always go that route. I still prefer civility.

Well it seems that you are unable to type *beep* without using an asterisk!

Hey

thanks for that-I think they totally missed my point. (And that is a lot of people are sensitive to that word, it seems out of place in a film of this type-and I wondered if it influenced their opinion of it. )

But thanks for your defence-I'm a he by the way haha :-)

I really don't understand why it's such an insulting word.

reply

It's a testament to the power of misogyny that quite a nice old-fashioned word for female genitals should have become pretty much the ultimate insult.
Robbie didn't use it as an insult in his infamous note though, he used it correctly, albeit naughtily.....

reply

It's women who consider it the ultimate insult, not men.

reply

Nonsense. Misogynist nonsense at that.
