Nothing unique about this show

There's no difference between this and late-night shows on network TV. About the only difference I can see is that they don't have to bleep swear words on this show. Otherwise, it looks like just another bunch of big libs spewing out hatred for this country and it's traditions. Having Janeane Garafalo in tow is proof of that. You can see stuff like this on ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC(Keith Olbermann), Comedy Central, etc. etc. Whatever happened to good honest debate, with both sides represented(ie., The Firing Line). Not just a bunch of big libs agreeing with each other. This show might be entertaining to some people, but it's certainly not unique.

It's entertainment guy. did you miss the point?

reply

I agree Polara. At least Bill Maher, Chris Rock, Dennis Miller, Donny Deutsch or John McEnroe have (or had) some tiny semblance of balance and debate on their shows.

All who agree with Polara are idiots. Tis show is not like every other late night show on tv. It may be essentially the same format, but it's approached differently: it has a fiery punk rock attitude.

The point of the show is for Henry Rollins to get his point across. He's not there to get all the dope from every angle from every a-hole who has an opinion. Henry will have people on his show who generally tend to agree with his viewpoint because it makes for a certain type of conversation and appeals to a certain viewer. Most people who watch Henry Rollins or are into his music, and are generally aging, left-wing punks and hipsters. Plus I think if anyone ever gives Henry some lip he'll attack them, lol.

And so what if he doesn't get every viewpoint across on his show? It's not CNN or NBC or even.....ugh....Fox News. You don't really need a balanced view on the Henry Rollins show. No one is really looking for that. People want to see Henry rage against the machine and act crazy. It's his thing. And really, how many other shows are like this?? How many other shows hosts tell the president or any other people that they don't agree with to literally go *beep* themselves?? I never saw Leno do that, or Carson, or Conan, Olberman, or any of the other late night hosts. And so what if someone is liberal?? You gonna hate on someone simply because they don't share your beliefs?? Wow, I'm pretty sure that America was NOT founded on that principle.

Yeah, liberal thinking isn't always right. No socio-political theorem is. But it works for those people so just let them be. And if you ask my opinion, which I know you haven't, but liberal talk show hosts tend to give the better cross section and analysis of the worlds current affairs seeing as how the conservative spectrum of the media twists everything into a delusional partisan mess.

I don't like the division between people in this country because of "liberal" or "conservative". I really don't. People can be really great or really horrible no matter which side they are on. We need to start seeing each other as people rather than Democrats and Republicans or Liberals and Conservatives or this and that. Too much of that sh*t has torn our people apart in the past. I think that that kind of division just makes us hate each other even more and that it is unnecessary.

Hey Sonic, I'd call you narcissistic, except that word's not quite strong enough.

///Henry will have people on his show who generally tend to agree with his viewpoint because it makes for a certain type of conversation and appeals to a certain viewer//////

As H.L. Mencken (maybe it was Voltaire) once said, "When two people always agree, only one of them is doing any thinking"

//////How many other shows hosts tell the president or any other people that they don't agree with to literally go *beep* themselves?? I never saw Leno do that, or Carson, or Conan, Olberman, or any of the other late night hosts////

Yeah, those guys get good ratings on REAL networks.

//////You gonna hate on someone simply because they don't share your beliefs?? ////

Hate us? No, but you did call us idiots (see above)

//////And so what if he doesn't get every viewpoint across on his show? ..................liberal talk show hosts tend to give the better cross section and analysis of the worlds current affairs////////

Uh, sounds like you're arguing with yourself there. You "two" can work that out.

///////Yeah, liberal thinking isn't always right.... I don't like the division between people in this country because of "liberal" or "conservative"./////

After all you've said, that's hard to believe, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt on that one.

HAHAHA!! Fox News represents other viewpoints... that's pretty frickin funny!

You gotta be kidding?!?! Bill Maher is the most oppinionated right-wing, anti-God jerk on tv. To me, he's just a extreme left-wing version of Bill O'rielly.

And to the people that compare this to a streight up talk show……GET A CLUE!! Most of his stuff is social/political commentary, meant to be taken on different levels. It's not, joke-laugh, joke-laugh, music break, credits. Open Your Minds people!

This was a GREAT show….when IFC was truly independant.

Keith Olbermann never had the New York Dolls performing live ...

reply

There's nothing particularly original about it, but it's alot more aggressive and straight forward with it's message than most other late night talk shows. That, to me makes it unique.

reply

Yea but I'll bet you Keith Olbermann never took it up the ass and bragged about what a tough guy he is either.

Would you care to elaborate on this, so MAYBE you can give your statement a speck of credability?

reply

I like this show. I would love to see two more shows exactly like it, except one with a far right point of view(a REAL far right point of view, not Fox news style), and the other with a view that's somewhere in between left and right, as most of us agree and disagree with things from both sides.

reply

This show is incredibly unique because it has guests like Jurassic 5, Chuck D, Werner Herzog.. I mean come on, what other late night talk shows feature guests like these? NONE.

Exactly, or how bout the mars volta or thom yorke? Who the hell else had them on their shows?

reply

for some strange reason, this board discussion popped into my head while i was watching the most recent show. i think that the format of the show is pretty unique.. especially in the first season. what other shows regularly schedule rants, moments of reconsideration (which also kind of goes against your point of it being only one view, never taking anything else into consideration), and letters to other "celebrities" wedged between extremely candid interviews and musical performances with all the grit of being in a garage as opposed to a hyped stage exhibition with pyrotechnics?

more to your point that it only shows one point of view, i question whether you remember the name of the show... the henry rollins show. it's not the henry rollins allows other people to voice their opinions that are vastly different from his show. no, it's not called that at all. if you don't like the format, you can get your own show, and call it the polara2 allows other people to talk because he'd rather criticize than do anything about it show.

lastly, i think on henry's show, hands down, the interviews are far more candid and real than on other talk shows. on other talk shows, it's more for entertainment and flair. make the audience laugh, plug your movie, end scene. but this is not the focus on henry's show. i think the questions are more genuine from henry. no, he probably doesn't have interns who sit around and research upcoming guests so he can read the summary and ask questions written by said interns. but isn't that refreshing to watch something different?

if it weren't for my horse, i wouldn't have spent that year in college.

Saying this show is not unique is the epitome of ignorance.

reply

Just remember if you get a letter from henry, your probably raping people who don't even know it.

I have read almost every comment on the 1st and 2nd page of this topic. My take is Henry Rollins having HIS OWN SHOW is VERY UNIQUE and the reason is because of his jack-of-all-trades type of abilities. For example, I loved the interview he did with Jeanene Garafolo.

WHY did it take UNTIL 2006 for him to get a chance to host his own TV show in it's cable format??????????????????????WHAT TOOK HIM SO LONG TO GET SUCH A COOL GIG.

Henry Rollins has been a well established Hollywood headliner and his hard rock, blue collar persona is part of why he is popular in my opinion.

Rollins should have had his own cable type of rock TV show SINCE 2002,THE YEAR 2000, or even in the late 90's.

I'm also very surprised that this guy seems that he doesn't like California Governor Arnold and has a anti-Republican type of political slant. I thought he'd have a somewhat respectful admiration of Arnold just like Dee Snider does.

My question is this: IS HENRY ROLLINS REALLY A LIBERAL OR DO PEOPLE CALL HIM THAT BECAUSE HE LIKES TO TALK POLITICS MORE THAN MAYBE HE SHOULD???

reply

It's funny, Rollins actually states that in his travels, there's no better country than the USA and encourages people to go live for a few months anywhere. Yeah, that's hatred of this country, sure enough.

I also like how none of you ever attack the standing points shows like this makes. The worst you're coming up with is they're a bunch of "libs". Obviously the ultimate insult, if you don't have half of a solid command on the English language.
