So what happened to this movie?

This was supposed to be released in 2008. I remember that there was even exact release date for Finland, but not anymore. Was this ever shown in US theaters or are there some distribution problems?

reply

Nobody seems to actually know.
There are no news nowhere, the webpage has no news nor anything since last year and you can find nothing via google.

It's like the project would be dead. I haven't even seen a trailer yet.
If it's messed up the director should at least release some news about it.

There is a trailer for it at www.andrewtiernan.com on the Stone's War page of the film section and also on his official site at

http://web.mac.com/andytiernan/Andrew_Tiernan/Homepage.html

In addition there are myspace and facebook sites for the film.

Hope that helps.
Cheers

Yeah, but there are no news and nothing else about it.
No marketing, no release dates, no comments, no previews, NOTHING.

There was some news about the movie in Finland. Seems that Latvian or Lithuanian (sorry can't remember atm) production company has taken the movie into its vault for some reason unknown. Something to do with money I guess. Movie itself has been finished and ready for theaters. :/

Can one movies have as many difficulties as Stone's War... First with the name of the movie (War of the dead) and cast (Olivier Gruner, James VanDer Beek) beeing changed after money run out while filming and the crew had to come back to Finland on their own expence. And now that the movie is finaly finished, the productioncompany might not have enough money to release the movie... What a shame. I really have been anxiously waiting to see this one. Hopefully we'll see it someday.

Development stops in satisfaction

It's filmed in liethuania. Most of the actors are finnish but he producers are americans, liethuanians and italians. The language is english. The movie is done and ready for theaters, but even the distributors don't know whats going on.

The man who seems to be responsible for the delay is Ramunas Skikas, the head of Liethuanian Film Studios: http://www.lfs.lt/en/disp.php/en_production/en_prod

The director Marko Mäkilaakso says he is sad about what happened, but cant go in to details.

Everything you mentioned in your message was brought up before, thus there's no point on mentioning something that was mentioned before in the same thread.

reply

Except of course that he provided links and sources which was pretty helpful.

Some "news" about why it has not been released:

Director Marko Mäkilaakso: I don't know what the main reason is. Stupidity? There is no logic in this production.

We are in the same situation. The movie is in final stages, but nothing has happened in months. The main producers are not talking to each other. And not much with me either. Everything depends on Lithuanian Film Studios and Ramunas Skikas.

Producer Barr B. Potter only says: Talk to Skikas

Ramunas Skikas: There has been some delays, but at the moment, i can't say anything else.

Skikas is then asked if the movie will be released some day.

Yes, but i can't say anything else. We will inform when we can say something else. [Skikas ends the call]

Lithuania not Liethuania.
Ramunas Skikas is like any other regular Lithuanian. Either a thief or a drunk, both of which would explain the delays and money problems.

Hello! I was one of the sound effects editors/designers on this film. Final picture for this film was locked about a month ago, and I believe visual effects are nearly completed by this point. The final audio was mixed all last week at Monkeyland Audio in Burbank, and per the director, the film will be screening in February at the Berlin Film Festival. They've already got distribution in place for many territories (not U.S. yet) but they hope the exposure at the Festival will help generate some solid sales.

For a bit of insight on the sound design on "War of the Dead," please feel free to check out my blog: www.lagosounds.com

Thanks,

Hi, according to an article released 3 hours ago on a Finnish news website, this movie is coming into theaters in Finland in this coming summer, but an exact date was not mentioned. Filming was done already in 2007, but there has been financial problems since then. The film has already been shown at a film festival in Toronto last autumn and will be shown at a film festival in Scotland at the end of February.

UK dvd release date is May 28th.

Or just go to Netflix. The US version at least has this film, so get MediaHint (if you're outside the US) and check it out if you wish.
