I read in one description that the film is set in 1941. Not that this film is historically accurate but Americans weren't fighting the war in Europe in 1941. Yes, it's some kind of behind the lines special forces guys but December would be the earliest they would be used.

Well, technically, this wasn't supposed to be the war against Germany. It's supposed to be the war between Finland and Russia; so, it is possible (highly stretched) that American military advisers could have been sent at the request of the Finnish military.
