The Retreat

You and Otis turn and run. Otis pulls out a Glock 9mm hand pistol and hands it over to you. You've never shot a gun before, but you've played plenty of Halo and know how to shoot a weapon. You begin to aim at the advancing zombies and pull the trigger. You miss. The kick back of the gun shocks you and you drop the gun. It goes off, shooting Otis in the leg. You panic, unsure of what to do; you leave the gun and run. As you're running away, you look back and you see the zombies cover him and he screams as he's being mauled away. Grieved but scared, you continue to run.

“Sorry!” You shout back at him as you get away.

“You dick!” He screams back at you with his last breath.

You get to the edge of the downtown area and you slow your pace and catch your breath. You remember that Otis has a good stock of food and water, but damn it, he didn't tell you his address. You remember him saying something about being in a close neighborhood, no more than a mile away. So you begin to walk up a street to the closest sub-division you know. As you're walking, you realize, you're still thirsty for a beer. So you kick in the door of a closed convenient store and grab a six pack of Labatt Blue and open one up. Mmm....luke warm beer. “Tastes like golden piss water.” You think to yourself. You continue to take a few more sips, while you resituate yourself and try to figure out you next game plan.

You finish the beer, toss the empty away and leave the store, with the five other beers in stow. You walk up the street a bit more and see a few houses. You forget that there are zombies everywhere and you kick in a door to a house and walk in. It's empty, cleared out, and books everywhere. You look down, see a picture, and pick it up of a happy family. "Well, they're all dead." You think to yourself. Still trying to figure out where everyone went, you walk into the kitchen to see if you can get some food. Beer on an empty stomach gets you pretty tipsy, pretty fast. You open the cabinets and pull out some cans of baked beans and eat it. After your stomach is full and you've had a couple more beers, you leave the house. "Where to next?" You wonder.
