Araki's films look retro


You ever notice Araki's pictures look like they're from around circa 1986-1991? Is there some specific film stock he's using to get this affect? Is it deliberate? Is it just cheap film? I think the people who made American psycho used the same film stock as the picture has the same quality, which looked dated in 2000, but the film was set around the late 80s, so it was in fitting with the period.

Anyone hear anything about this?

I've noticed it too. Could be because he chooses to shoot on film (35mm in this case) as opposed to digital or RED cameras, which seem to be popular nowadays.
