The message is on "OUR TV", that's the message/metaphor..it's all from/in the media!..the signal is about how the media can crush our minds and media is everywhere when we turn on our t.v sets (from soup operas to certain movies to news obviously...etc.)and we are all vulnerable to it. that's what i like so much o this movie..

I've read the first few books on the Montauk Project by Nichols, Preston B.; Peter Moon, and they're rather fascinating.

This is why the internet wastes my time. IT is the time hole where I walk in and lose an evening!

Doesn't Clark say something about the "filter" being down? The sounds that are usually masked are then allowed to come through.

Though it is dark . . . know your flag . . . is still there.

Yes, I think he was babbling something about what seemed to be an experiment that was never supposed to be transmitted live, so I think it's safe to say that it was an accident.

In my opinion, it's supposed to be a metaphor for "spin" or "propaganda" or "messaging," whatever you'd prefer to call it... or as Stephen Colbert famously called it, "truthiness."

As they said in the movie:

"It's a trick. Change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change."

I believe this is the underlying point of the the movie... at least in regard to the signal.

It's the crap put out to 'urge' us to think about things the way someone else wants us to.

Look at the word "liberal." The GOP and its talk radio spielmeisters have spent 20 years turning it into a dirty word.

For example, here's a link to a memo Newt Gingrich prepared for members of GOPAC (a Republican political action committee) entitled (I'm not making this up) "Language: A Key Mechanism of Control"

Here's the link:

http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article4443.htm

The point of this is to divide us, to turn us against one another, to make us fight amongst ourselves, to make us hate and mistrust each other, to make us view our neighbors as enemies and in turn place our trust in our "leaders." In short, the point is to make us trust "the signal" above all else.

Change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change.

Your neighbor is no longer your "neighbor," he is your enemy, trying to destroy the country and make it weak and take away your job, and reach into your pocket and steal your money.

The answer is:

Listen to me. Do you hear that? Listen. It's past the noise in your head. That is the natural world. That has been here a long time before us. It's going to be here a long time after we're gone. That is real. And that is what we focus on.

Recognize that your neighbor is NOT out to steal your job or money, he has no interest in destroying or weakening the country...

He doesn't hate the country, he loves it just like you. Just because you may have different views on what's best for the country, it doesn't mean one of you has sinister motives. It merely means you have different opinions.

I used the GOP as an example, but that was merely because of the existence of that GOPAC memo as an example.

ALL politicians, political parties, corporations, and pretty much most groups that require the support of the population engage in it to some extent.

Another more glaringly obvious example would have been Hitler's anti-jewish propaganda... To create fear and hate in the population, Hitler constantly attached sinister imagery and language to Jews... He equated them with rats, suggested they were dirty and conniving and only looked out for eahc other and were working together to tear down Germany and rob its citizens.

This "enemy in our midst" rhetoric provoked fear and paranoia and allowed Hitler to convince the people that he, and he alone held the keys to salvation. It allowed him to point at any detractors or critics and say "aha!! They're merely Jewish sympathizers! They're in on it too!"

Or, as Hitler's Reich Marshall, Hermann Goering put it:

"The people can always be brought to the bidding of
the leaders. This is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are
being attacked, and denounce (your opposition) for lack of patriotism and
for exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every
country."

The answer is to filter out that noise and look past it for the truth. It's easy be to suckered in by it. It's effective precisely because it plays upon our worst fears and our deepest insecurities and can thus be hard to resist. To resist it leaves us feeling vulnerable and weakened... but in reality, it's giving into it that leaves you weakened.

Allowing yourself to be ruled by your fear leaves you vulnerable to control by those who would manipulate those fears.

As hard as it is, you have to filter it out and look past it and try to recognize things for what they are.

Yup and the liberals are good at propaganda as well. Margaret Sanger probably read everything written by Goebbels. NOW certainly does.

What hump?

LOL You just proved the post above you correct. Enjoy living in the signal.........

reply

On a literal, non-philosiphical level. There is no anwser for where the signal came from or why. It could be a freak accident, sabotage, an attack, etc.
Like in the movie "The Birds" all the birds flip *beep* why? Never explained.

reply

EXACTLY!!! Thank you, f__k all this conspiracy sh!t. They Romero never explained why ppl turned into zombies. (there was some mention of signals from neptune or somethin, but whateve)

- Bears, Beets, Battlestar Galactica-

It was "space radiation" in the original film.

reply

I think in this film The Signal, the transmission was coming from Carpenter's Prince of Darkness, unless you only had basic cable, then it was from Pontypool.

reply

lol @ bl333.

The only propaganda today is the liveral propaganda.
The constant reminding of how multiculturalism works(why do we need to b reminded?)

the bullying of people in hollywood with right wing views etc etc i could go on.

reply

Never heard of a "liveral" propaganda. What is that? Do they eat liver all day long, or what?
Or can it be that you're just a dyslexic right-wing warmongering redneck retard?

reply

"Or can it be that you're just a dyslexic right-wing warmongering redneck retard?"

Liverally!

What hump?

reply

Oh yes, the poor right wingers who are being 'bullied'. Never mind that from 2000 to 2008 America and Britain had right winger wet dreams of governments that treated any dissenting views as treason, slandered anyone who had even vaguely left wing opinions, drove people to career ruin and even suicide...all aided by a controlled media that was in Bush and Blair's pockets. The problem with left wingers is they're pussies and never fight back...the righties know this, which is why they can spout libellous, often racist/anti-Muslim, palpably untrue nonsense (eg Coulter) and get away with it. Swift Boat, anyone? To say right wingers are 'bullied' is like saying the media is blindly supportive of the Palestinian cause...as some groups actually have the gall to claim. Yeah right, and Reagan knew nothing about Iran-Contra.

If any righties get 'bullied', they were kinda asknig for it. For, you know, blindly supporting a regime that started two wars, destroyed the economy, and wiped it's collective backside on the Geneva Convention and the Constitution.

Dear boy, the one constant in the universe is the constant battle to control the mindless minds of the masses. It happens on both/all sides, my friend, and if you forget that you've already lost.

What hump?
