Q about the ending *SPOILER*

OK. The Dream.
Is it supposed to be ALL a bad dream he's having throughout the movie? or was the dream only about the gory murder scene of his daughter stabbing him?

Which is it?

Can anyone elaborate ...

Him being killed by his daughter was just a nightmare he was having. The rest of the movie actually happened and he's now free of all suspicion and his daughter is out of harms way.. but he still believes/fears that she'll try and kill him someday which is why he prays at the end. Because he doesnt want to die by the killer he knows thats in his house.. The hunter now becomes the hunted. Its a very nice ending in my opinion :)

Very well said.

Thanks for the clarification, and yes, a creepy ending indeed.

It's actually more the fear that his daughter will turn out like him. That is his greatest fear in life. When Marshall asks him in his mind "Why do you fight it so hard Earl?" that refers to this great fear he is fighting. But the will to see his grand daughter grow up is stronger than his greatest fear, that's why he didn't go through with the suicide and decided to keep fighting his fears. I think the ending was perfect and it made it a 7,5/10 for me. (I voted 8/10 because of IMDBs limited voting system). Many people didn't completely get the ending and therefore slightly underrated this great movie.
