Mr Smith (spoilers)

Why did Mr. Smith pull the gun on Mr Brooks after finally getting to witness a murder up close and personal? It seemed to me that he got his rocks off from the killing so why the sudden turn? Futhermore, how did Marshall/Brooks know that Mr Smith was about to do this?

reply

They knew he'd see it happen, get hooked and instantly want more. The easiest way for him to do that would be killing Mr. Brooks.

He knows Brooks doesn't give a *beep* about him and eventually will kill or frame him. Killing him first is his only chance.

In the car en route to the murder, Marshall mentions that he smells gun oil and that the oil is different than what Brooks uses. Brooks tells Marshall that Smith has brought his gun and also explains Smith's intent in doing so.

It is a repeated theme throughout the film that Brooks has a high degree of perception when it comes to deception in other people.
