Dane Cook absolutely ruined this movie

Why couldn't they get someone that can act or isn't a douche bag to play his small role?

reply

im not a big fan of Dane Cook myself, but i actually liked him in this since he was so different from the sophisticated Mr Brooks character which i thought worked quite well overall.

His role wasn't very small firstly.

Secondly, he did a great job. That character was supposed to be a bit of a douche bag.

Happiness (1998) - 9/10
The Proposal - 7/10

I thought he was great in this. He was such a risky, weird choice but it was perfect.

Take my advice. Watch "Stella". It's hysterical. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443409/

^ I agree completely.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

Small role? What movie were you watching? His character was the driving force behind more than half the plot. If he hadn't shown up with those photos, the movie wouldn't have gone ANYWHERE.
Also, he did a great job. His character is supposed to be an impatient, foolish douche bag and that's exactly what Cook played.

reply

The character needed to be a douchebag. Dance cook was born to play that role. I thought he was excellent in it.

I have to agree with the rest of the posters, Cook was excellent in the role and his character was about as close to a-moral as you could get. I think his character was a pretty good contrast to Brooks not merely because of his differing demeanour and the way he carried himself but the very fact that unlike the older serial killer he was a socio-path rather than being mentally ill. This made his character that bit more chilling as he wasn't clinically insane while Brooks quite clearly was. In a funny way I kind of root for Brooks because he is the lesser of two evils although he does do some terrible things but I really did want to see him get one over on Cooks sleaze ball and (spoiler) it was all the more satisfying when he did. This wasn't a great movie by any means but it did have Its moments and Cook for me certainly helped.

I didn't miss the point, I got that the movie was laid out so you root for Brooks, I was merely stating that while you know you shouldn't really you can't help but do so. It was obvious that you were supposed to dislike Dane Cook's, only a fool or someone morally bankrupt would! Anyone would have to be pretty dim to think you were or else the movie would have failed in it's intent. Although to say by your own words that we should be annoyed by Cook's character is putting it mildly. We should be revolted and sickened by him, annoyed is about as big an understatement as one can give.

Ah, sorry. I thought because the post came straight after mine that you were adressing me. My mistake.

reply

even if he fit the part well the fact is i cant stand that guy. its like madonna in dick tracy. sure she does fit the role well but damnit she still is annoying and i cant stand her.

reply

dane cook is extremely annoying. he was the weakest link of this movie. terrible acting.

reply

I think the reason I liked him in it is because I have never seen him in anything else so I know nothing about his 'comedy' side.

I CANNOT STAND Dane Cook. He makes me angry just looking at him.

However...

He was perfect for the movie. He was supposed to be an annoying, dumb, fidgety, little prick. He played the roll perfectly. I don't think we were supposed to like him. He was the perfect opposite to Mr. Brooks's cool calm and sophisticated killer.
