7.4, seriously?

Look I fully support everyone’s right to an opinion. Matter of fact I try to never gripe with an IMDB score, because chances are that whatever it is it has enough votes to reflect a somewhat general consensus of the public, and if you disagree than you’re the outlier to an extent. That being said, how can the majority of the people find this movie to be a 7.5ish level film? I mean I know we’re suckers for serial killer/mystery/cat & mouse films but come on! I watched this last night with high hopes, but it turns out to be garbage!

Did I find the Costner/Hurt pairing to be intriguing? Yes, that was a plus. & I admire that they were able to make me somewhat align myself with Brooks, even though he was a madman. Everything else though was a horrific letdown. So many stupid plotlines. The Hangman? the divorce? Just cause you’re able to tie them together by the most contrived of threads, doesn’t justify them being in the movie. The stuff with the daughter was the worst. Everything from the dialogue to the acting to the actual scenarios reeked of unbelievably in those scenes. Dane Cook got worse and worse as the film went on. There wasn’t any building tension, there was no real sense of mystery. And the dream ending? Other than allowing for a sequel, had no business being there. The sad thing is there are seeds of a good movie in here: Serial killer battling the addiction and/or a split personality, the fear of passing on a dark passenger from parent to child. These are stories I’d of liked to seen explored with more focus. Instead I got Mr. Brooks, one of the most overrated films I’ve come across in a long time

The Hangman? the divorce? Just cause you're able to tie them down together by the most contrived of threads, doesn't justify them being in the movie.

That statement clearly showed that you have no idea what you're talking about. You're basically saying that because you personally didn't enjoy those aspects of the movie, they had no business being in the film. Without those plots driving the story forward, there wouldn't have been an endgame to this memorable story.

It sucked me in....but, Cosner & Hurt tend to do that. As another post on another thread mentioned, Dane Cook has done so much funny stuff that a relative unknown would have been a better choice. And Demi's role could have been played by anyone. Except for looking good, she didn't really bring that much to the character....just my opinion.

I was hoping for a much better ending....and the cemetery scene was just too predictable!

I thought it tied together just fine...I was compelled. I do agree, however, with the dream ending. They shoulda just ended with the scissors in his throat, then IF they made a sequel, insert the wake up sequence.

the 7.4/10 is underrated. it's Kevin Costner's 2nd best movie behind Open Range (2003)(10/10 ; my #1 movie of 2003 and one of my all time favorite movies) if you ask me. i gave Mr Brooks a 8.5-9/10. i just finished re-watching it just now and it held strong as the last time i re-watched it was May 18th 2012.

but basically the movie is carried by the general feel/tone of the movie along with Costner/Hurt. i even thought Dane Cook fit his character well as it's pretty much the opposite of Costner's more sophisticated character as Cook's is more of the loud mouth type etc.

Mr Brooks is my #2 movie of 2007...

1.No Country For Old Men - 9/10
2.Mr Brooks - 8.5-9/10
3.The Mist
4.Eastern Promises - 8/10
5.Live Free or Die Hard
6.American Gangster - 7.5-8/10
7.He Was A Quiet Man
-.The Brave One
-.Flawless
-.Juno

p.s. for the record... only 65 movies managed to get a 9/10 or 10/10 rating from me out of the 1775+ total movies i have seen. so as you can see i don't hand out super high ratings much but there is three of them above.

No offense.

^ Mr. Brooks is nice serial killer movie, but giving it a 8.5 ? No frigging way ! The other 6 movies in your list, all are way better Mr. brooks. I guess 7.4 is a quite good achievement for it.

From a 5000+ movie watcher.

Up until there I didnt know whether this is one of the stupid 'this is underrated' or one of the stupid 'this is overated' threads. With the movie's material it could turn out both ways. ;)

As for me the rating is perfectly fine... 7/10.
Why are there never any 'the rating is wonderful' threads? ^^

Some movies you like and some you dont and I bet among the movies you like are enough ones with plotholes and suspension of belief and bad acting... but those things you then consider as trivial comparing to the general entertainment.

On the other hand such things become major subjects when you find no access to the movie, it doesnt appeal to you.

Just accept it as it is.
Why? Because that belongs to the things you cannot change.
Youre just wasting your time. And create spam with such threads.
